DEPUTY PUBLIC TRANSIT DIRECTOR

RECRUITMENT DATES September 5, 2006 - Until selection is made. First review of application material will occur on September 25, 2006.

SALARY $67,850 - $106,954 annualized. Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

EXPERIENCE Requires four years of experience in transit planning, management, or operations, including two years of supervisory experience in transit administration; and a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, transportation, planning or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES The Deputy Public Transit Director manages and directs one of four major divisions of the Public Transit Department: Compliance and Contract Services, Facilities, Operations & Planning, and Regional Information Technology Services. Incumbents have responsibility of assigned division to: manage personnel; oversee operational budget and capital infrastructure; assure transit funds are expended in conformance with local, state and federal guidelines and regulations; and work with other departments, division, state and federal agencies in the coordination of the various aspects of the transit program. Work is performed under the general administrative direction of the Public Transit Director with wide latitude for the exercise of professional discretion within approved policies. Incumbents in this job may rotate between divisions while maintaining a high degree of proficiency in assigned program responsibility. Currently there is one vacancy in the Compliance and Contract Services Division. Vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible (hiring) list.

ALSO REQUIRED Some positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
