JOB TITLE: Commodity Manager
DEPARTMENT: Supply Chain
REPORTS TO: Director, Supply Chain
LOCATION:San Fernando Valley, California

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Responsible for developing and implementing global commodity strategies to achieve the best-in-class supply chain management in cost, quality, technology, cycle time and terms. Establish and implement material strategies associated with developing strong supplier partners, company wide supplier performance measurement systems, and strategic direction for purchasing processes and organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Develop and implement company’s commodity procurement strategies and long-range business plans while meeting aggressive annual goals (in conjunction with partner functions, e.g. Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, etc.).
•Negotiate and manage moderate to high dollar, high impact agreements for direct (in the end product) materials or indirect (goods & services).
•Participate and develop commodity annual price negotiation strategies with suppliers and resulting business awards.
•Organize, manage, and lead project teams interfacing with all levels of management.
•Establish oneself as an integral link with critical decision makers and assist in setting and accomplishing fiscal goals, including the development of long range strategic and business procurement plans for assigned commodities.
•Extend lean principles into supplier base and be a participative member or team leader in the TQM culture.
•Assume a team leader role in major, complex projects including: formulating project plans, RFP/RFQ preparation, supplier selection, contract negotiations and supplier management.
•Participate in development of work definition, lead group to explore alternative approaches to ensure desired supplier performance and develop contractual language to reflect company’s best interests.
•May provide work direction to two buyers and administrative personnel.
•Manage project work with moderate transaction responsibilities
•Function as department commodity consultant advisor.
•Is considered an expert in understanding requirements of contracting globally for and managing direct and indirect suppliers/commodities.
•Manage the supplier selection process for projects with significant outsource content.
•Apply collaborative and “buy-in” skills to work with cross-functional teams to assess and qualify potential supply partners to optimize total acquisition value.
•Maintain and ensure departmental compliance with ISO & Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
•Demonstrated success within a metrics based organization
•Managerial experience over a small team
•High technical aptitude for electronics, electro-mechanical, or casting / precision machining.
•Ability to read and clearly understand specifications, prints, or schematics
•Demonstrated experience in the implementation of “best practices” and “world class” processes.
•Previous experience with transitioning internal manufacturing to outsourcing contract manufacturing suppliers.
•Participated in the management and / or implementation of formal Supplier Certification Programs.
•Lead or participated with the formal assessment and qualification of supply partners.
•Requires a high level of detail and analytical skills
•Possess excellent computer skills (knowledgeable of a variety of software systems (SAP experience preferred), Microsoft Office) and be capable of generating accurate reports for reliable information to be used in key decision-making processes.
•Strong communicator; possess excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills – able to communicate with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.

•Organizational skills characterized by the ability to maintain efficient office control

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
•CPM and/or APICS certification desirable
•Minimum 10 years purchasing/planning experience in both high & low volume production environments
•Must have extensive Sheet Metal and/or Casting experience (7+ years)
•Previous ERP implementation, SAP experience desirable
•Experience in an ISO 9000 manufacturing environment
•Experienced in interacting with production floor to plan & schedule daily production requirements
• Demonstrated ability to manage & improve supplier relationships & performance
