One organization will primarily serve the US mutual fund line of business led by Capital Research and Management Company and its related subsidiaries. The second organization will support the Global Institutional Group. This change in the structure of GIS will create a significant number of new openings as resources are aligned to each line of business. As a result there are multiple open leadership positions throughout the organization to support this growth.We are currently seeking manager and director level individuals who will play key roles in the leadership of GIS Applications. They will be responsible for shaping the technology strategy and direction for GIS and for the development and support of a variety of applications. These individual will be expected to effectively manage people, including building and developing a skilled teams, directing and motivating the teams at an appropriate level of detail, and ensuring a service oriented approach. In addition, they will understand and help shape the future direction of GIS's business and collaborate with the business leaders to ensure their needs are met.The core responsibilities of the positions include:
Overall responsibility for a portfolio of applications for the line of business and/or department being served. This could include all or a subset of applications or business departments such as Portfolio Accounting, Manager Results, Attribution, Trading, Settlement, Investment Administration, Net Asset Value, Trade Processing, Portfolio Control, Compliance.
Providing technology leadership to GIS by developing long-term goals and strategies.Managing application development teams, including:
Resource planning, staffing and recruiting activities, including working with other managers to forecast needs.
Managing the performance and development of associates, including meeting with staff and supervisors regularly to understand needs and opportunities for growth and development.Managing projects and technology, including:
Establishing an applications portfolio, project priorities and objectives, needs assessment, scheduling, and budget preparation and accountability.
Keeping abreast of industry trends and new technologies.
Evaluating and implementing software packages and, with input from others, determining when to "build or buy".
Establishing and ensuring consistent, quality architectural standards and practices.Managing client relationships, including:
Establishing and building relationships with business users through frequent interaction to assess needs, negotiate deliverables, and enable them to achieve their business goals through the effective use of technology.
Participating in development of long-term goals and strategies.
Proactively identifying business and technology solutions to meet GIS's stated and unstated needs.
GIS supports business users globally. Therefore it is important for the candidate to work closely with the IT and business counterparts in Europe and Asia. This may require regular meetings and visits to other CG offices outside of North America.
Participating in managing GIS overall, in all of our offices.
Participating or leading various ITG-wide initiatives, such as process refinement and improvement in project management or systems development.Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of ten years experience managing in IT, primarily in applications planning, development and support, though experience in other related technology areas (e.g., architecture or infrastructure) would be beneficial. Management experience in a large, complex IT environment in a large IT organization (over 500 people) with a complex, multi-platform technical environment and complex, multi-year technology projects is required. Experience in the asset management industry is a very significant plus. The successful candidate must have strong management skills with experience managing at least 25 direct and indirect reports. Candidates must have the ability to collaborate with peers and business leaders. Individuals should possess solid technology skills in a broad range of applications development tools and technologies and should have strong project and process management skills, including vendor management and software package implementation. A bachelor's degree in a related field is required and an advanced degree would be a decided plus.We offer excellent salaries, a progressive environment and a premier benefits package that includes:
