Technical Writer
Purpose: General Summary Develops a wide range of military technical publications for product applications by end-users plus internal documentation requirements for customer training, field engineer training, logistics support, systems installation and maintenance, parts provisioning and engineering retrofits. Serves on Integrated Program Teams in support of contract technical writing deliverables and assists the respective business units in fulfilling technical publications requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Determines specific purpose and required documentation for technical manuals, operation and maintenance manuals, MIL-SPEC manuals, work package manuals and other technical publications for end-users and company utilization. Consults with design engineers and technical support staffs in acquiring technical specifications, engineering drawings, and other technical data for beginning the process of manual development. Prepares text, charts, graphs, illustrated parts breakdowns, pictorials and other forms of instructional material to best meet the needs of technical publication users. Ensures that documentation complies with any Department of Defense or other federal agency requirements in terms of format and content. Edits technical publication materials in all stages of development and reviews final drafts to ensure inclusion of all relevant data. Obtains final approvals before release for publication. Prepares special documentation pertaining to repair parts and special tools lists, provisioning parts lists, long-lead item lists, common/bulk items lists and other logistics requirements. Develops design change notices from engineering change orders and other technical communications regarding product design modifications.
Job Specifications
Six or more year?s technical writing experience on military or commercial manuals. Must be proficient in desktop publishing and skilled in the application of standard Microsoft software such as PowerPoint and Excel. Prefer technical undergraduate degree with minor in English.
