Software Database Report Writer - SQL, Access

This position with the WWBI team:
Researches data.
Generates reports for company managers.
Develops, in Access or Excel pivot tables, a standard set of queries against SQL Server databases.
Creates and formats Access reports.
Creates Access forms for launching queries and reports.
Is quite progressive in Business Intelligence area.
Is very flexible as it is a small team that analyzes a large number of websites.
Brings exposure to new technologies and participates in Beta programs.

This position is also responsible for the creating of periodic (either daily or monthly) reports based on web metrics data, in addition to revising reports that are currently used. The individual in this position will be responsible for coordinating with others to ensure that business requirements are designed into reports, and will perform at least basic testing on each report.

Requirements:


One to two years work-related experience.
Extensive experience developing queries, reports, and forms in database programs.
Experience using a database report writer.
Ability to interpret logical and physical database diagrams.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred).


The core workflow and associated technical skills are:

Activity Technical Skill (Required or Good to Have)
Gathering of data from raw sources SQL/OLAP query writing/modifying for complex joins (Required)
Manipulating and analyzing data Excel Pivot Tables, Macro Creation, and pulling data into Excel from external sources as above (Required)
Publishing to Sharepoint Site Knowledge of Sharepoint (Good to have, will train)
Testing queries/reports – Verifying data integrity SQL/OLAP with emphasis on troubleshooting (Required)


Soft Skills:
Being detail-oriented with the data, and helpful with co-workers and stakeholders.
Business understanding.
Ability to put the data into context.


The person in this position should have knowledge of, or an interest in, how the web world backend works. Terms of art (such as hits, ratings, and users) will be the bulk of the data that will populate the reports.


The successful candidate will have experience:
Writing reports that are based on SQL and Analysis Services (OLAP) data.
Writing (often complex) SQL queries.
Designing reports in Excel (Pivot Tables) and Reporting Services.

Ideally, this candidate will have experience:
Using VBA.
Creating web-based reports.
Writing MDX queries.


Ad Hoc Inquiries:

In addition, there is a possible training path so that the person in this position can interact with internal stakeholders to answer more detailed questions that our standard reports do not cover. This would require the ability to guide conversations with stakeholders who are not data professionals, to defined problems against which data reporting could be done.
