Regional Director of Legal Studies

Regional Director of Legal Studies is a member of the administrative staff and coordinates the legal studies program at the three regional campuses. The RDLS reports on matters relating to teaching, advising students, curriculum development, program revisions, internship management, textbook selection, student learning outcomes assessment and other matters as assigned.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION:

*A.Assist in interviewing and make recommendations to the academic dean for hiring of adjunct faculty.

B.Assist in development and evaluation of adjunct faculty.

*C.Develop and monitor program budget.

*D.Make recommendations regarding equipment and software purchases and equipment maintenance contracts.

*E.Coordinate program development at regional campuses

*F.Serve on Paralegal Assessment Committee and ad hoc committees; develop and work with program advisory committee and participate in faculty meetings.

*G.Participate in accreditation reviews and reports.

*H.Coordinate program accreditation activities and self-study.

I.Assist in publicizing and dissemination of information about the program.

J.Work with admissions in recruiting students.

K.Coordinate program agreements with outside entities.

*L.Serve as the primary advisor for the department.

*M.Assist students with course scheduling and provide guidance in their academic and personal development.

*N.Approve student requests of and perform faculty oversight for internships, externships, and cooperative education.

O.Review and submit to academic dean requests for approval of independent studies.

P.Serve as primary advisor at orientations.

Q.Submit suggestions for changes in master syllabi to Paralegal Assessment Committee.

*R.Review projected course offering for the program on a quarterly basis and recommend needed revisions to academic dean.

*S.Responsible for teaching up to four (4) credit hours each quarter.

T.Arrange for coverage of classes during own absences and emergency leaves.

U.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Jurist Doctorate degree.

EXPERIENCE: Membership in the Kansas and/or Missouri state bar associations and a minimum of five years practical legal experience with paralegal supervision required. Two years teaching experience in higher education preferred.

PHYSICAL: Occasionally must exert force to lift and/or move objects up to 20-40 lbs.

SKILLS EXPECTATIONS: Management and leadership skills; organizational and research skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
