DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and monitor specific materials unique to the Student Legal Assistance program; organize and prepare departmental administrative reports; analyze, summarize, and interpret information. Coordinate resources to meet the needs of the area. Under the supervision of the managing attorney, determine appropriate priorities for activities within the office; interpret policies and procedures and monitor the activity of law clerks. Manage hiring process for student interns; responsible for payroll procedures and forms for student legal office staff. Assist in developing budgets, performance indicators, and accountability reports for new programs and/or budget units. Perform simple analysis on Student Legal Assistance budgeted accounts. Act as liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff in facilitating university programs. Consult with staff, students and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretation. Serve as liaison to faculty, staff, students and the public concerning inquiries or information requests. Respond in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
Resolve field-related problems through written and/or verbal correspondence. Prepare legal documents and pleadings as required. Participate in the action plans for leadership teams and leaders to direct and guide related program, project, initiative or area of a department/college. Analyze research data and other literature and make interpretations for application to the Student Legal Assistance program. Provide notary services. Prioritize and arrange meetings, conferences and appointments for office staff; make necessary travel reservations and itineraries; determine and prepare background materials needed. Evaluate and recommend operational changes to work unit to ensure effectiveness and compliance with university policies and regulations. Participate in various unit, department and campus committees.
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and three (3) years of related experience; OR Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated knowledge of standard law office administrative practices and procedures; accounting and budgeting procedures and techniques; MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook); ASU's travel policies and procedures; ASU's student employment hiring policies and procedures. Experience working in a law office; using a human resource management system in a higher education environment (HRMS preferred); using a financial system in a higher education environment (Advantage preferred); preparing detailed financial reconciliations and expense tracking reports; working with a diverse student population; supervising student staff. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of organizational skills with attention to detail.
