Strategic Procurement Specialist
General Accountability:
Under minimum supervision of the Materials Manager, the Strategic Procurement Specialist is responsible for identifying low cost sourcing opportunitites, preparing reserse auction events, qualifying successful suppliers and coordianting transitions to new suppliers with others in procurement. The Strategic Procurement Specialist shall also act as liaison with Bettis Waller quality and emgineering departments to resolve issues which may arise during quoting, sampling and production of components.
Nature and Scope of Position:
Reports directly to the Materials Manager. There are no direct reports. However, must interface with all levels of personnel, both technical and non-technical within the supply base and Divisions, Site Procurement Managers - worldwide. Must be willing to travel extensively and possess skills to facilitate communications and progress initiatives while traveling.
Specific Accountabilities:
1. Assess supplier capability, cost benefit analysis, issue resolution, risk mitigation and contingency planning.
2. Review drawings and specifications with suppliers as necessary to initiate and develop through implementation material containment and cost reduction opportunities.
3. Manage projects through completion, with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Project Engineers and Buyers as necessary.
4. Liaison between suppliers, Quality Assurance Engineering and other commodity groups of Procurement as necessary to support cost reduction project implementation.
5. Develop and maintain systems and processes necessary to maintain and drive supplier suggested cost reduction.
6. Assess and communicate technical risks, business requirements, deliverables and schedules supporting project initiatives.
7. Drive Procurement initiatives to completion inside the estimated project schedule.
8. Analyze technical data, designs, preliminary specifications, manufacturing limitations and supplier facilities.
9. Coordiante efforts between suppliers, Engineers, Quality Assurance and Procurement Personnel to facilitate material substitutions, standardization, rework and salvage of purchased materials.
10. Negotiate contracts meeting Emerson standards.
11. Inflation containment/forecasting.
12. Long term agreement, supply base consolidation and outsourcing on a global basis.
13. Identify, develop and run Reverse Auctions.
14. Maintain existing strategic procurement related databases to insure data integrity.
REQUIREMENTS
Entrance Qualifications:
- Business or technical degree required (IE, ME, EE, BA, BS)
- Organizational and analytical skills
- International purchasing experience
- Ability to work efectively with all levels of management
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to comprehend and interpret engineering drawings, quality systems requirements and customer specifications
- Strategic Procurement Experience
- Ability to understand component requirements and communicate requirements to suppliers
- Experience withmultiple facets of amnufacturing of components (die casting, sand casting, stamping, machining)
- Personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Excel, Word and Project
