Materials Buyer/Planner

MATERIALS BUYER/PLANNER
Reports to Inventory Mgr)




JOB DESCRIPTION:Manage and coordinate purchases and purchase orders with internal and external customers and suppliers. Maintaining appropriate inventory levels of engines and parts. Must work closely with Parts Sales and Production departments to assure efficient operations, JIT and quality control efforts. This position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks, strong communication skills, and an ability to coordinate between departments and prioritize needs on an ongoing basis.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inventory Management
* Create Purchase Orders and send to proper vendors to maintain proper inventory levels
* Organize and maintain accurate records related to purchases
* Review respective orders with Parts and Production Managers to ensure proper inventory is maintained
* Analyze inventory to maximize inventory turns, while maintaining 100% JIT performance levels
* Develop knowledge and understanding of supplier requirements (ordering, documentation, DOEM credit application)
* Review vendor sourcing and relationship management
* Assist Sales and Engineering departments on new product development including new vendor sourcing
* Receive incoming engines (w/ appropriate serial numbers), parts groups, and components
* Process claims for damaged inventory or shortages related to received inventory
* Assist others in Inventory Department in expediting receiving and shipments of inventory


Production Coordination
* Must work effectively with Production Manager to coordinate engine builds, inventory and customer invoicing


Engine Sales Coordination
* Modify customer Bill of Materials (BOM) based on requirements established by sales, engineering, or production department
* Communicate with Engine Sales department regarding customer forecasts and vendor delivery schedules
* Prepare monthly JIT report for management



QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution or equivalent work experience
* Ability to operate business computer and related components (Great Plains experience preferred)
* MRP experience preferred
* Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner, both verbal and written
* Ability to forecast and prioritize short and long term requirements
* Ability to perform in a team environment

Ideal candidate will have diesel & gas engine technical knowledge, with focus on Ford and Kubota engines.
