This job is an integral part of the medical department that:
Collectively and individually meets established time and quality goals.
Works with Risk Management, Actuaries and Product Development to bring medical expertise and emerging medical trends to the businessThe Associate MD role:
Is focused primarily on production (case review).
Provides medical consultation for risk selection and claims adjudication for life and combination products.
Provides timely, accurate medical reviews, evaluation and recommendations using effective risk selection methods based on current clinical and insurance medical knowledge. This may require research and competitive benchmarking.
Provide medical review and evaluation of contestable claims and waiver disability claims for both the claims and legal departments.
Enhance the medical expertise of the company through participation in the development of guidelines and the training/education of the life underwriters and claims persons.
Participate as a subject matter expert and/or leader in company projects that may include manual development, guideline development, mortality studies, and requirement management.GENERAL: Interpretation of medical tests, topics and issues for underwriting, claims and legal departments.
Advise and recommend underwriting and claims actions, focused on medical issues.
Interpret medical topics and issues for underwriting, claims and legal departments.
Ability to analyze medical trends for risk management analysis and guideline creation.BASIC CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: Professional license as M.D. or D.O. (Must have completed residency.)* Broad knowledge of general medicine with a minimum of 5 years in clinical practice.
Medical underwriting training and minimum of 2 years insurance medical experience.
Basic working knowledge of life, MIB, disclosure/regulatory issues, litigation, claims processing and underwriting skills.
Strong results orientation, effective communication and relationship building skills, and ability to adapt to corporate and high case volume environment.PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:Emphasis on cardiology an asset.
