Senior Underwriter

Responsibilities:Are you an individual with demonstrated analytical skills, decision-making abilities and sales aptitude? Safeco is looking for highly accomplished players to join our commercial underwriting team. This position demands a professional with a track record of success. As a Senior Commercial Lines Field Underwriter for Safeco Business Insurance (SBI) products, the individual chosen will underwrite and price both new and renewal commercial lines business within their assigned territory. This Senior Underwriter will provide a high level of customer service, delivering timely responses to agents on quotes and renewals. In addition, the selected candidate will manage the assigned group of select agents on the products, programs, philosophy and the computer system which SBI offers. The Field Underwriter maintains a high level of knowledge of coverage, exposures, rating plans, state requirements, competitors, market conditions and company programs. This individual will be expected to negotiate specific accounts, drive new business flow to our automated platform and develop growth plans for their assigned group of agents. Superior sales skills and a proven record of influencing others is a must. Communication and presentation skills must be well developed and proven. Approximately, 50% of the field underwriter’s work week will be spent in the field working directly and personally with the agents in their territory. Some overnight travel will be required as well.Requirements:At least 3 years of Commercial Lines Multiple Line Underwriting Experience is required for this opening, along with a demonstrated knowledge of the P&C Insurance Industry. The selected candidate must have the proven ability to build relationships and negotiate and demonstrate persuasion and problem solving skills. Solid oral and written communication skills and strong sales skills are also required. A four year degree is preferred. The individual chosen for this position will reside in the territory which is the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The candidate must be able to work independently as this position will report remotely to our Aliso Viejo, CA underwriting office. The position may be virtual.
