SR Marine Claim Examiner

The Marine Claim Examiner will be part of the Marine Services Unit responsible for handling higher complexity marine general liability and recreational marine claims. The position requires the analysis of a broad number of marine coverages and the application of maritime law under numerous jurisdictions.

Responsibilities include assigning, directing, managing and supervising surveyors, investigators, experts, and attorneys subject to established guidelines and procedures. Responsibilities also include assisting colleagues in the handling of marine claims within the Marine Services Unit to meet customer service standards and claim department standards.

This position operates under limited technical supervision and works within broad limits and authority requiring special knowledge of maritime law.

Competencies:
Proven track record of strong litigation management, coverage analysis, negotiation, and casualty claim handling experience required. Strong time management, written and verbal skills required. Must have the ability to foster strong business relationships with partners and customers.

An understanding of Admiralty/Maritime law is preferred, but not required. Candidate must have a proven background of grasping and applying new concepts and principles. The candidate must be/become proficient with maritime law as it relates to: shipping: navigation; waters; commerce; seamen; towage; wharves, piers and docks, recreation, piracy, etc.

Requires a minimum of 5+ years of litigation or casualty claim handling experience.

Education:
Bachelor Degree and/or JD a plus, but not required.
