Risk Underwriter
Business Unit: GE Commercial Finance, Capital SolutionsFunction: Risk ManagementResponsibilities: Working closely with the Risk Manager and credit peers, this position will be responsible for a portfolio of assigned accounts and own critical aspects of Risk monitoring: (1) conduct customer research resulting in sound credit decisions (2) initial underwriting and establish set credit lines (3) continual account monitoring (4) working with Sales and other related departments (originations, cash) to manage and resolve any credit related issues.An Underwriter is expected to have good working relationships with customers and be comfortable communicating and interacting with internal customers, sales and senior management. The individual will significantly contribute to the overall performance of the Risk team regarding decision cycle time, policy enforcement and improving risk processes and tools.Duties also include:Review and analyze customer information to approve or decline credit requests and/or establish and renew lines of credit. The analysis will typically include a review of: financial statements, cash flow analysis, payment performance, industry position, and collateral.
Prepare Credit Approval Memorandums for Senior Management that detail exposure levels, customer overviews, industry analysis, key risks and mitigants, and key analytical considerations.
Periodically review and evaluate credit lines of assigned accounts. Take appropriate actions as required to protect company's investment, meet business plan objectives, while balancing approval rates and minimizing portfolio risk and losses.
Maintain effective relationships with peers, management, sales and internal customers to achieve business goals while meeting customer needs.
Lead one or more projects that aim to improve risk processes and tools.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: 2 year Associates degree
Minimum of 4 years of financial statement analysis, credit underwriting and/or credit management experience with a bank or financial services company.
Must have prior experience in preparing and presenting credit recommendations to Risk, Sales and other senior levels of management.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Proficient with Financial Statement spreading software (i.e. Moody's)Desired: BS/BA degree or equivalent with at least 4+ years of banking, cash flow analysis or credit experience
Prior leasing or other financial services experience, in risk, operations or customer service
Account management experience
Green Belt Certified
CPA certification
Self-starter - takes initiative and is proactive in taking action and resolving issues
Detail oriented with ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task and follow up in a fast paced environment
Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills (oral/written) in making decisions and managing issues to resolution
Ability to quickly adapt and embrace new processes, ideas and technology
Excellent work ethic with a sense of urgency and high energy level
Proficient in Microsoft Access
Critical thinking and external focus skills with an ability to make balanced decisions while maintaining relationships and meeting customer needs
Must have good organizational skills
