To assist the claims manager in the investigation and processing of all property losses, 1st party transportation losses-vehicle damage and cargo, employee property damage losses and subrogation for all claim categories. To act as the expert regarding all property lines of coverage including coverage analysis, recommendations upon renewals, and answering all coverage related questions. To protect the company’s interest by ensuring that all property claims are effectively processed in a timely, cost effective manner and that all subrogation opportunities are identified and pursued to the fullest extent.Duties And Responsibilities:
Assists the claims manager in the training and coaching of the property unit adjusting staff, instructing them in the proper performance of work while familiarizing them with company procedures, expectations and guidelines.
Assumes managers duties over the property unit in the absence of the claims manager.
Promptly respond to calls from customers, store associates and division personnel. Handle and resolve complaints and problems arising out of daily operations of the department.
Assists the adjusting staff in pro-actively handling the property and subrogation claims through timely investigations and documentation.
Drives thorough file documentation and active diary reviews. Search for opportunities to pursue subrogation and contribution.
Searches for ways to improve claim handling, making recommendations to the liability manager for continued improvement of company guidelines for processing transportation and property/ subrogation losses.
Advises management of potential areas of improvement for loss control and property management.
Represents the company during mandatory settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as necessary and in negotiations with service companies, insurance companies, etc.
Handles pending cases as assigned to include catastrophic losses and exposures over $50,000.
Assists claims manager with performance evaluations, reviews, and in establishing goals and objectives for the property adjusting staff while encouraging each subordinate to develop and succeed.
Assists claims manager in interviewing prospective personnel when additional staff is required. Assist in the selection and training of new staff members.
Thorough knowledge and expertise in all lines of coverage including all policy provisions, reporting requirements, deductible calculations, and excess claim submission procedures.
Make recommendations to Risk Management regarding coverage for future renewals.
Responsible for maintaining and participating in the 24/7 “Emergency Response Team” for serious trucking accidents and large property losses.
Work closely and interface with other company departments (legal, real estate, construction, store development, transportation) regarding property and transportation policies, procedures, remodel, new construction, major claims, etc.
Performs all other duties as required.People Responsibilities:

Indirectly leads, mentors, and trains Claims Adjusters and Claims Assistants.Scope Data:
Settlement authority up to $50,000.
Responsible to meet or exceed pre-set subrogation goals each fiscal year.Physical Environment:
Work is performed under normal office conditions in a temperature-controlled environment.
Will spend the majority of the workday sitting at a desk or computer terminal or walking within a limited area.
Will use computer, keyboard, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.

REQUIREMENTS
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred.
Additional insurance course work helpful (AIC, SCLA, CPCU).
At least 5 years of handling property, cargo and 1st party transportation claims required.
Extensive property, cargo, and transportation coverage knowledge base.
Experience with personal computer applications required.Competencies:

Exhibits excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrates excellent public relations knowledge and skills. Must be capable of representing the company during trial and in negotiations and settlements with attorneys, insurance companies, service companies, etc.. Must possess excellent empathic skills and the ability to deal with conflict on a daily basis.
Must be able to handle confidential information in a mature and professional manner while using sound judgment and discretion in the processing of general liability claims and managing the office staff.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload is essential.
