Property And Liability Claims Adjuster

General Summary

Under minimal supervision, investigates, adjusts, and negotiates insurance claims based on coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage or any other factors influencing the outcome of the claim.

* Investigates and evaluates insurance claims, identifies the need for further investigations, determines compensability and benefits due, negotiates settlements, authorizes payments, and follows claims through closing or settlement.
* Sets reserves appropriate for the claim, monitors reserves on a continual basis, and adjusts reserves by completing a Caption Report as needed.
* Investigates claims and maintains appropriate written records by interviewing the claimant and all other relevant parties to determine the extent of the company's liability.
* Responds to inquiries and complaints related to claims from claimants, attorneys, employers, medical providers, and agents.
* Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of experience handling property and liability files to include coverage questions and litigation.
- Possession of a valid Adjuster’s license for the state of South Carolina with current CEU's.
- Working knowledge of commercial package policies and endorsements.
- Ability to supervise field adjusters and attorneys regarding all claims as assigned.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to conduct investigative interviews.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others to explain complex issues, receive and interpret complex information, and respond appropriately.
- Ability to be highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel overnight on occasion and to respond to catastrophe situations as needed.
