Paralegal

The position is located in Fort Lauderdale, FL

The purpose of the department is the representation of persons covered/insured by the Company, named as defendants in civil litigation for property damage and/or personal injury and for under-insured and uninsured cases.

The scope of this job is to provide litigation support to defense attorneys.

The individual will be responsible for:

1. Discovery--Responsible for the completion of discovery propounded against our clients, follow-up to ensure the receipt of discovery we propound against other parties, and securing needed documents and evidentiary materials.
2. Record Review: Responsible for obtaining, reviewing, summarizing and analyzing plaintiff's medical records and discovery responses.
3. Trial Preparation: At the instruction of counsel, paralegals are responsible for the preparation of exhibits, jury instructions, and motions in limine for trial. Responsibilities may also include preparation of pleadings & motions and interviewing clients.
4. Court Filings: Responsible for filing legal documents at court houses as necessary.
5. Other Assistance As Required: Responsible for providing any other litigation assistance that may be required for a given case.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Intermediate - Analytical: Ability to leverage technical skills in support of team objectives.
2. Intermediate - Communication: Job requires the ability to interact effectively with attorneys, administrative assistants, clients and customers.
3. Advanced - Decision Making: Responsible for sound decision making with minimal guidance in a high volume environment.
4. Advanced - Customer Service: Job requires advanced service skills when dealing with internal and external customers.

Experience Required:
Meaningful experience in a litigation setting AND/OR Meaningful experience working with medical records AND/OR prior insurance defense paralegal experience

Computer Proficiency:
Basic computer skills required Experience with MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point preferred; experience with Adobe Acrobat and Reader preferred.

Education:
College Degree - Preferred
Major preference: Four year college degree OR Two year college degree with at least one year of prior paralegal experience.
