Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

To assist management with the prevention of disease and injury arising through work activity by providing proactive occupational health and safety processes and systems; to manage an emergency response and first aid treatment service to care for persons who become ill or injured at work until they can be transferred to advanced medical care. Monitor the working environment using approved occupational/industrial hygiene and established safety methods. In coordination with the HSE Manager, develop and manage an effective process that assures adequate management of Worker’s Compensation Program, outside vendor medical services, OSHA safety monitoring, compliance and reporting. Responsible for coordinating health and wellness programs, and other compliance activities. ·Monitor and evaluate working practices and assess health effects involving pharmaceutical manufacturing, including physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards; develop safe job procedures and recommend and institute appropriate control measures, SOP’s and training programs.·Assist in taking quantitative measurements of workplace hazards using appropriate equipment.·Monitor workplace injuries and illnesses.·Plan and implement health & safety programs. Evaluate the need for, initiate, and conduct specific occupational health and safety training programs.·Assist with the rehabilitation and back-to-work efforts for returning employees.·Promote health education and health promotion programs.·Manage/coordinate appropriate health surveillance programs, including hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs, including testing, evaluating and training.·Analyze and interpret laws and regulations relating to workplace health & safety.·Develop and maintain occupational health policies and standards in consultation with management and HS&E departmental staff, ensuring that they are in accordance with appropriate guidelines.·Coordinate pre-employment testing and physical examinations.·Coordinate Workers’ Compensation activities, including maintenance of the OSHA log.·Manage MERT to include training, certification, documented periodic meetings, paging system testing and appropriate equipment evaluation.·Coordinate Biannual CPR and First Aid classes.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree from accredited school Occupational Health, Safety or a related field required. Must possess and continuously maintain valid First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.At least 3 years in occupational health & safety and/or industrial hygiene experience in a manufacturing environment. Previous pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.Required Skills:Ability to work independently and in a team environment and take initiative to learn new techniques and skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Current Professional CPR certification.Knowledge of Worker’s Compensation system as well as disability management. Working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations and reporting requirements. Microsoft Office, basic knowledge of occupational health software programs.
