Medical Underwriter Associate

The Medical Underwriter Associate reviews and evaluates applications
for Life and Disability coverage. Responsibilities include:

Reviewing applications, evaluating medical information, use of
manuals, utilizing sound judgment and written guidelines to
accept/reject applications through the Medical Underwriting
System.
Determine when additional information (physicians statements,
exams, tests, previous application files or applicant
information) is necessary.
Utilize the Medical Underwriting System to review expert
modules, assess debits, and order requirements, (outside of
automatic ordering), input final action decisions and
customize letters to applicants.
Conduct verbal or written communication with Benefits
Managers, Account Executives, etc., regarding status of
applications.
Prepare the systems confidential coding report to be forwarded
to the Medical Information Bureau, Inc. as appropriate.
Evaluate coded information provided by the Medical Information
Bureau, Inc. to determine if additional information (such as a
physicians statement must be requested.

Qualifications

Must have medical underwriting knowledge, health claim
technical experience or other specific knowledge of medical
impairments.
PC Knowledge

Ability to answer calls and provide information to questions.

Ability to make independent judgment decisions.
Attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Customer focused.

Overtime is sometimes needed in conjunction with peak periods.
