Marine Claim Supervisor

Marine Claim Supervisor will be responsible for all marine liability claims handled by the Marine Services Unit. This position is the next level of management in the field claim operation, and still functions as a hands-on working manager.

The Marine Claim Supervisor has responsibility for performance, development and coaching of staff. Provides training to new members of the unit and acts as a technical resource to the staff. Responsible for adequacy of reserves, inventory management, litigation management and expense management to meet departmental goals. Responsibilities also include ensuring that the unit operates within existing procedures, and recommends/creates new processes required to manage this line of business.

This position reports directly to the NE Zone Casualty discipline manager with dual accountability to the WW Marine Claim manager.

Competencies:
Proven track record of strong leadership and management skills at a supervisory and/or technical level required. Demonstrated ability to foster strong business relationships with partners and customers required. Strong time management skills and comfort with claim system(s).

An understanding of Admiralty/Maritime law is preferred, but not required. Candidate must have a proven background of grasping and applying new concepts and principles. The candidate must be/become familiar with maritime law as it relates to: shipping: navigation; waters; commerce; seamen; towage; wharves, piers and docks, recreation, piracy, etc.

Education:
Bachelor Degree and/or JD a plus, but not required.
