Liabilty Adjuster
1) File and Claims Supervision:
a) Confirm insured’s coverage and determine probable liability status of insured, set preliminary reserves.
b) Investigate document facts, review and negotiate claims settlement for claims involving bodily injury and property damage. Investigation may involve travel to accident sites with limited notice on 24 hour, 7 day week basis. Update and close files.
c) Review files for appropriate reserving and progress of case.
d) Monitor the claims and conduct quarterly audits.
e) Assign, supervise and maintain working relationships with independent adjusters.
f) Coordinate information with all regions for subrogation and physical damage claims.
g) Report discovered risks, etc. to Safety and Underwriting.
2) Litigation:
a) Assign outside attorney to cases requiring resolution. Provide information or investigation needed.
b) Coordinate the gathering of needed data and/or witnesses.
c) Supervise suit to conclusion and close claim file.
d) Attended trials and mediations as necessary.
3) Research:
a) Maintain current technical knowledge of relevant state negligence laws
b) Maintain and update knowledge of medical terminology, NADA values, and other claims related issues.
REQUIREMENTS
Educational/Vocational Training: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience. Prior IIA/CPCU courses and libility claims experience preferred.
1. Knowledge of or ability to learn claims procedures, relevant state negligence laws, read and understand repair estimates and medical records, NADA value guides, and other repair related materials.
2. Good oral and written communication skills, ability to interact with a variety of people
3. Good negotiation skills.
4. Good problem solving skills.
5. Ability to accept direction but also to take initiative on investigations and paperwork, ability to work independently.
6. Good PC and/or Image system skills.
7. Ability to regularly sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear; occasionally stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, operate a motor vehicle, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
8. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
