Insurance Verification Specialist


The job -
The Insurance Verifier is responsible for providing support in the business office, by handling all verification of benefits and authorizations for scheduled procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
Responsible for understanding, supporting and implementing the philosophy and policies of the Surgery Center of Richardson.
Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.

Representative Duties:
•Demonstrates applicable knowledge of policies and procedures related to Insurance Verification position.
•Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills related to Insurance Verification position.
•Manages information utilizing appropriate manual or electronic systems.
•Communicates with physician offices and patients in a professional and courteous manner.
•Ensures that SCOR has a copy of the pre-determination letter from the insurance company (or a copy of the letter from the surgeon's office) that states the procedure has been pre-authorized and that pre-cert number is specific for SCOR.
•Maintains confidentiality and completes documentation as required according to HIPAA guidelines.
•Ensures that all insurance benefit coverage meets standards of admission as dictated by SCOR policy.
•Correctly calculates co-payments and co-insurance percentages and notifies patient in a timely and courteous manner prior to procedure.
•Verifies accuracy of demographic information in SCOR system when notifying patient of financial responsibility and makes appropriate changes if necessary.
•Documents in the "comments" section of Advantx the amount the patient is responsible for as well as a brief description of benefits; also documents when the patient was notified of financial responsibility and if any payment arrangements were made.
•Notifies all patients, cash and insurance, at least 24 hours prior to procedure of amount due.
•Communicates the correct amount due when patient is obtaining a loan using Capital One or another loan vendor.
•Understands importance of following all applicable state and federal guidelines for collecting co-pays and deductibles.
•Documents benefit information in "Registration" module of Advantx.

Calculator, personal computer, Advantx software, copier, telephone, fax machine.

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications –
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Experience, preferably in a physician office environment.
•Knowledge of computer spreadsheets/word processing and Windows, Organizational skills, Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
•Prior experience with insurance verification.
