HVAC Technician - Mclean

Purpose: SUMMARY Works alone with minimal supervision. Tasks are diverse and require analysis. Possesses a thorough knowledge of HVAC systems and is competent in all aspects of the job. Perform field service calls to diagnose, repair and service HVAC systems. Will perform routine preventative maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair heating, air conditioning, ventilating, and refrigerating systems

Operate, calibrate, and repair associated electronic, electrical, and pneumatic systems

Perform and report evaluations of control, heating, air conditioning, ventilating, and refrigerating systems

Evaluate and coordinate the work of subcontractors to ensure quality and performance of contract requirements

Operation and maintenance of building management and control systems

Ability to install new HVAC and control systems as required

Other duties as required including those of less complexity



Preventive Maintenance (PM):

Perform continual PMs on HEPA filters, HVAC units, ventilation systems, and other miscellaneous equipment.

Manage the HEPA filter PMs consists of performing integrity tests on all HEPAs (over 350 on site), which requires attention to detail and good documentation practices on the paperwork.

Maintain/Repair/Improve Equipment:

Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment that has failed.

Suggest and implement improvement opportunities for HVAC equipment.





SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.



REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.





COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Internet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

HVAC Certification, Certification EPA and Universal Technician for CFC handling.



OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

High school/trade school graduate.
Extensive Knowledge of HVAC trade hand tools
Five (5) or more years of progressively increased HVAC experience
Knowledge of building management and control systems

Previous Experience as an HVAC mechanic

Strong background in refrigeration and HVAC equipment maintenance.

Current certification or ability to obtain Universal Certification through EPA program for refrigerant handling.

Excellent troubleshooting and analysis skills

Read and use manufacturers service manuals. May work on complex equipment unique to areas.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a variety of customers and other crafts.

Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.

Excellent computer skills to utilize Word, Excel, etc.

Excellent planning, organizing, and documentation skills

Must have mind set to work safely.



OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

High school/trade school graduate.

Two (2) to (5) years of progressively increased

HVAC experience Knowledge of building management and control systems
