Ferry Maintenance Technician

FERRY MAINTENANCE TECH III

Performs routine, major and preventative maintenance and repair of ferryboats, landings, shore facilities, marine equipment/machinery and/or grounds. Work requires frequent contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years experience assisting with the repair and maintenance of ferryboats, landings, marine equipment and machinery and/or related ferry facilities plus required U.S. Coast Guard certification(s) and/or document(s) appropriate for the position and vessel being operated. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

COMPETENCIES:

Considerable knowledge of:
Fundamentals of electrical/electronics and design proceduresMethods and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of marine equipment, machinery, facilities and ferryboatsApplicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codesApplicable laws, rules and regulations

Working knowledge of:
Emergency response procedures.

Some knowledge of:
Inventory and stock control procedures

Proficient skill in:
Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groupsFire fightingThe use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the tradeMaintaining a safe working relationshipMaintaining a safe working environment

Ability to:
Communicate effectivelyWork in varying conditions to include heavy traffic, overhead power lines and underground utilitiesWork in cramped spaces (bend, stoop, crawl) and at varied heights
