Facilities Management at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks Life Safety Systems Technicians who would be responsible for the inspection, testing & maintenance of fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment. Incumbents work under general supervision, performing a variety of complex electronics, electrical, and technical activities, while complying with numerous code and safety regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School Diploma or GED with at least 8 yrs of related experience including specialized training and education. 2. Must possess and maintain a Class C driver's license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points. Experience must include familiarity with NFPA 70 (The National Electrical Code) and NFPA 72 (The National Fire Alarm Code). Must also be familiar with other standards for systems that are connected to fire alarm systems for monitoring & control such as ANSI 17.1 Elevator Code; NFPA 13 - Automatic Sprinklers; NFPA 17A - Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems; NFPA 20 - Stationary Fire Pumps; NFPA 25 - Inspection, Testing & Maintenance of Automatic Sprinklers; etc. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to prepare reports and detailed procedures; to use personal computers; to lead and train others in technical electronics support work.
