UNIX Systems Architect
Job Summary and Mission
Starbucks Coffee Company, one of the top fortune 100 Retail companies, is looking for a Senior Technical Architect to join our dynamic IT team. As a member of the team, you will provide architectural direction, design and guidance on the Unix server platforms for medium to large scale IT projects. Deliverables will include architectural diagrams, architectural review documents, design reviews, proof of concepts, system patch management, system security management, requirement gathering, disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing. You will be working closely with the business, IT Strategy and Planning, and IT support teams to analyze, design, develop, test and deliver technical solutions. In order to succeed in this team, you must have the passion and energy to work in a fast paced, but process driven environment. Strong organizational, decision making, relationship, and problem solving skills are also required.This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading medium- to large-sized information systems technical architecture projects and assisting in definition of strategies for platforms, operating systems, and communications networks. Assists in defining and enhancing standards for technical architecture. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Assists in defining standards and procedures related to platforms, operating systems, and communications networks. Implements aspects of the technical environment using standard methodology. Leads medium to large-sized technical architecture projects, using standard methodology. Monitors project schedules, progress and costs to ensure work is completed on time and within budget. Participates in strategic planning and design of a wide range of the technical environment consistent with the Company's information systems technical architecture, using standard methodology. Researches new developments in platform, operating system, and communications network technologies and identifies potential application of new technologies within the Company.
REQUIREMENTS
Summary of Experience
Technology fields related to the design, planning and management of platforms, operating systems, and communications networks (6 years) Project management (3 years)
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of HP-UX and Sun Solaris Operating Environments
Hands-on experience doing technical architecture analysis and implementation
Ability to translate business needs into technical architecture requirements
Knowledge of SAN is desirable
Knowledge of Veritas Netbackup is desirable
Strong knowledge of system architecture
Knowledge of Unix platforms components of a technical architecture
Exposure to diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments Strong understanding of open-systems design and analysis
Must be able to learn and apply new technologies quickly
Exceptional interpersonal skills including teamwork, facilitation, and communication
Strong leadership skills
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Excellent Facilitation skills
Ability to Coach and mentor the less experienced members of the team
Experience designing and architecting scalable solution
