UNIX Systems Administrator

Position: UNIX System Administrator



GENERAL PURPOSE:

Unix Administrator with experience with AIX as well as HP Unix operating systems needed to provide support to both the CS STARS Amarillo and Chicago Data Centers. Responsible for supporting the installation, administration, and troubleshooting of UNIX servers hosting AIX and HP operating systems in a large, multi-user enterprise environment. Support includes incident/problem management, system outages, change activities, block points, and diagnosing hardware and software failures. Responsibilities also include local and remote software installations, driver and firmware upgrades, documentation, configuration management, integration of new systems/peripherals and monitoring system performance to ensure service availability and performance and designing and implementing system enhancements. Experience developing utility programs and procedures using various scripting languages is desired. Support on-call during off shift weekends and holidays on a rotational basis is also required.








REQUIREMENTS


4-6 Administering in a Unix

Monitor and enhance performance of all of the AIX systems.

Monitor filesystems, manage disk storage, and add disk space where necessary. This includes the management of volume groups, logical volumes, and filesystems allocated to logical volumes.

Verify the health of all products, such as DB2, Content Manager, Content Manager OnDemand, Infoprint 3.2/4.1, Infoprint XT, xport, Lightning Fax, and oracle.

Assist DBAs and developers, when necessary.

Maintain web application code for the performance monitor, the hardware information database, and the Infoprint XT infrastructure.

Apply patches and maintenance level updates, where necessary.

Write perl and shell scripts to accomplish day-to-day systems administration tasks.

Assist printing services with problems encountered with Infoprint, Infoprint XT, and xport.

Manage tracker agents and IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler FTAs.

Review general security issues within the OS, as they may arise (SAS-70 compliance).

Manage network connections and routing tables to all AIX boxes.

Problem determination and support.

Participate in Disaster recovery procedures.
