Tech Writer/Training and Development Specialist

In this exciting role you will develop, implement and maintain training programs to meet the training needs of the Engine Division's Worldwide Distribution Network and OEM Customer base. This position has wonderful growth opportunities and would involve not only technical writing but also writing curriculum for Kohler Company's E-Learning system, as it pertains to the Engines group.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop comprehensive training plans to address our training needs worldwide. This will include defining market and business problems and opportunities, recommend solutions, estimate costs and develop timelines
Implement and oversee the Learning Management System (LMS) to track the certification status of the Dealer Network.
Maintain a formal modular training program that brings consistency and professionalism to schools held at the Central Distributor level.
Determine what engine systems could benefit from the development of interactive training CD's. Author the material and act as project manager to ensure development of a professional and value added product.
Develop the material to be used for various factory, OEM and update schools.
Maintain a formal training engine program that takes full advantage of returned sample and over-stock engines.
Perform as actual trainer in a variety of training settings.
Utilize the Internet to support and expand on training efforts.
Communicate with product managers, engineers, sales personnel and other subject matter experts to gather resource materials for inclusion in training material.
Identify projects that can be sent to outside vendors for development, define the project scope, and act as project manager to ensure development of a professional and accurate document.
Represent Training interests in meetings conducted by marketing and engineering.
Perform other assignments delegated by supervision.
Participate on process improvement teams and other teams that may arise.
Work to develop individual goals/objectives to support the department goals through the use of the Maximizing Performance Appraisal Process.
Personally demonstrate and drive the Kohler Core Competencies.A Bachelors degree is required, preferably in an Engineering or an Education related discipline. Technical writing experience is absolutely required. Prior experience in training or facilitation is preferred however is NOT required. Due to the complexity of the product lines we are requiring candidates to have solid experience in reading complex Engineering drawings and schematics.Must have good planning and organizational skills. Personal computer skills in Microsoft Office products are required.
REQUIREMENTS
A college degree in engineering or education is preferred. Consideration may be given to an Associate degree in a technical or business related field depending on the strength of their work experience.Training and technical writing experience is required.The successful candidate will be a responsible self-starter, who will work independently to meet deadlines and commitments to support departmental and divisional objectives. Must have excellent communication and delivery skills. Must have good planning and organizational skills.
