Systems Analyst

SUMMARY
Engage in multiple aspects of the systems development life cycle of operational systems used for transaction reporting and Helpdesk Operations. Use industry best practices to assist in design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, and modification of computer systems or programs according to user specifications. Produce polished, rigorous analysis of patterns and trends in the municipal securities market, especially as relates to regulatory policy in transaction reporting. Design, create and use analytical databases in consultation with Transaction Reporting Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

•Gather and document functional requirements for new computer systems, commensurate with industry best practices.

•Write, execute, and document well-formed test plans for systems being developed or modified.

•Assume product management and project management responsibilities for certain subsystems of the transaction reporting system.

•Design and create databases to meet specific analytical goals, and populate databases with data from various sources.

•Write sophisticated queries to extract complex datasets from Oracle and MS Access databases.

•Write documentation explaining approach used to retrieve and manipulate data in order to allow review and replication of analyst’s work.

•Create polished reports for management and development teams.

•Give presentations on analysis results including analyst’s conclusions on the accuracy, usefulness and completeness of the data.

•Provide research and analysis support to diagnose problems in operational systems.

•Write queries used by Help Desk Operations for the execution of standard operating procedures or in support of ordinary Help Desk Operations activities.

•Pursue ongoing skill development to extend the range and depth of knowledge and skills, within the scope of assigned duties.

•Draft user manuals, systems documentation, explanatory graphics, standard operating procedures and other technical writing as needed.

•Maintain Transaction Reporting Department workflow by studying methods and following standard operating procedures; reporting needed changes.

•Perform other duties as required by the Transaction Reporting Manager and Deputy General Counsel.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s Degree

•Minimum of two years of related experience


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
•Training, experience or both in computer system development lifecycle practices.
•Strong knowledge of SQL and the concepts of relational databases.
•Ability to understand and communicate subtle and complex data sets.
•Ability to manipulate complex datasets and their expression in various electronic formats such as Oracle databases, MS Access databases, MS Excel spreadsheets, charts, graphs, export/import files, and written documentation.
•Willingness and ability to document all work.
•Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and an ability to work with minimal supervision.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Strong commitment to meeting expectations and goals, including timely and high quality work.
•Ability to understand and perform common calculations related to municipal securities transactions.
