System Administrator (Meditech)

This position performs the role of Systems Administrator managing the Microsoft Windows based Meditech hospital information systems (HIS).The position will participate in the implementation and operation of mission critical hardware and system software. This position will also be responsible for working with other system administrators to maintain day to day operation of the system including telephone support to end users.This position will also work with other teams in strategic initiatives performing technical project activities focused around the Meditech application.1. Monitors system performance, diagnoses system issues, performs emergency and scheduled maintenance.2. Provides support to operations relating to system and network administration problems. Provides second level technical support ensuring maximum system availability and reliability.3. Proposes and implements system enhancements.4. Evaluates operating system upgrades and patches. Coordinate with user community scheduling times and user procedures necessary for operating system upgrades and/or maintenance.5. Prepares monthly status reports (or implements web-based reports) quantitatively reporting system performance and uptime.6. Responsible for securing system resources. This includes password maintenance, new user logon and setup, file access permissions, and data protection procedures.7. Creates and maintains automated system backups and procedures for computer operations.8. Assists operators, where possible, in streamlining daily operations.
REQUIREMENTS
Four years experience in Microsoft Windows systems administration or technical support, including at least two years experience as an administrator in a multi-server mission-critical environment.Previous experience with Meditech is preferred or willingness to learn Meditech application administration.Must have demonstrated knowledge and/or skills in the following areas:1. Thorough understanding and specific knowledge in the use, operation and administration of Microsoft Windows operating system environments to include hardware, software, and firmware installation as well as various reporting tools.2. Thorough knowledge of server hardware platforms including Dell, HP, and external disk.3. Must have an understanding of complementary technologies including TCP/IP networking, faxing, modems, shared storage (SAN).4. Demonstrated experience working on large projects.5. Working knowledge of Telnet, FTP, SNMP, TCP/IP, and DNS.6. Familiarity with commercial backup products and storage management concepts.7. Strong troubleshooting and script writing skills.8. Ability to understand business requirements and translate into technical requirements.Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related IT field, plus three years experience in IT operations, or four years experience in IT operations.
