Provide expert level Redhat Linux and Sun Solaris engineering and
implementation of server farms and related services. Performs planning, installation, integration and maintenance of open systems computer operating environments, and tests, maintains and modifies software.This position works under general supervision. Other duties may be assigned in addition to the following:
Design and implements mission/business critical Linux/Unix server solutions to address business needs as well as to improve and/or maintain the Quality of Service of customer systems. Evaluate, select, integrate, and implement new system architectures, tools and techniques. Understand and promote standards, guidelines and policies for the use and integration of technology. Applies high skill with commands, utilities and understands advanced aspects in the administration of Linux/Unix systems. Implements and reviews backup and recovery strategy to ensure file system integrity and business requirements are met. Analyzes performance indicators such as system's response time, number of transactions per second, number of concurrent processes, resource usage such as memory, streams and semaphores. Creates tests and verifies written description of steps necessary to modify systems and procedures required to implement new software and hardware. Works with external business partners and technology partners to ensure a smooth integration occurs with customer systems and processes. Attends vendor conferences and presentations to observe demonstration of system software. Provides 24-hour on-call support for problem analysis and resolution to system problems on a rotational basis.
Education and training: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field preferred. High School Diploma or GED required. Eight to ten years IT experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience in maintaining Linux and UNIX systems.
Knowledge and skills: Three to five years senior level Redhat Linux / Sun Solaris Unix experience. Two years experience with Veritas Cluster Server Two years experience supporting application server technologies such as BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Tomcat, etc. Two years experience with Veritas NetBackup and NDMP Two years experience supporting a SAN environment Two years experience with NAS Work experience in web hosting, ASP or other 24*7 production data center environments. Working knowledge of backup and recovery as well as disaster recovery techniques. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and
technical journals. Ability to effectively present information to top management, other
departments, public user groups and/or boards of directors. REQUIREMENTS
