Sr. Software Test Engineer – Wireless Protocols

JOB #: 06091301 - P DESCRIPTION: Exciting, early growth company that is well-funded and ready to move a prototype to product status. It has been operating in “stealth mode” and now expanding their staff to include a Lead Software Test Engineer. Their wireless product will be sold into the biggest potential WLAN market and compete with BlueTooth. Since late 2004, analysts have watched the electronics market introduce multi-media products to meet the needs of wireless telco services and consumer electronics. Emerging from the technology “bust” have been products that require new IC’s to handle larger bandwidths. My client has hired a seasoned CEO and Director of Engineering to move the company to the next level, so they can get their prototype ready to address multiple platforms.

As a Lead Software Test Engineer, you will report directly to the Director of Engineering. You will be a lead over a QA Software Engineer to help establish and/or improve their QA process. To show their commitment to a quality process, they have already hired a full time person dedicated to configuration management and builds. Thus, this new position will round out their product release cycle.

You will use both 3rd party tools and ones developed in-house by engineering. If you have an interest in developing tools, the Director is open to that.

You will write test plans and implement them.

You will develop and write automated scripts in Python to test embedded protocol software.

You will analyze wireless specifications and available wireless test specifications to develop & execute test plans. This will involve working very closely with the software developers to communicate your test findings throughout the development cycle. (The software group are all senior topnotch developers who have been hand-picked for their technical skills and teamwork.)

Your biggest challenge will be to verify compliance with multiple wireless specifications that will be supported by wireless USB standards, such as Certified Wireless USB, WiMedia MAC, Bluetooth 3.0, and WiNet.

This would be a great career move for someone, who has been working in the mobile phone field (which has become a commodity), and wants to get into a new area that is on the upside of technology growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have 7-10 years experience in Software Test Engineering role for embedded software.

Must have some background in testing wireless software, such as for mobile phones, with emphasis on software compliance.

Must have experience with automated testing with any language, such as Python or Perl.

Must have written test plans after analyzing industry specifications.

Must be able to work in a dynamic environment and be excited about working with the latest wireless technology.

Must have degree in Computer Science or related areas.
