Applies principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to research design, develop, test, and evaluate software and systems. Works with others in developing corporate and Web applications that meet the demands of a rapidly growing retail business.Job Responsibilities:
Working with a project leader, participate in detailed studies and analysis of business requirements and recommend technical solutions
Helps project team with analyzing system development opportunities by gathering data, reviewing company operations, evaluating alternative methods and preparing time estimates according to project guidelines
Partner with management by interfacing with user groups to determine new project requirements
Plays key role in preparing systems design and specifications suitable for program design
Design program logic to meet specifications suitable to programming standards
Accurately estimate development time and coordinate/develop work and project plans
Develop and maintain program and operational level documentation according to standards
Design, develop, test, and implement efficient computer programs in authorized programming languages ensuring system development integrity according to industry-accepted standards and practices.
Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems
Develop test plans and ensure all systems perform according to the specifications
Develop and Implement test scenarios
Automate testing activities by creating test scripts or using a testing tool
Coordinate builds, migrations, and rollouts of software releases
Address any problems in a timely and informative manner
Escalate any problems in a timely and informative manner
Coordinate and lead portions of various development projects as assigned
Work with project leader to keep projects on schedule and recommend needed action to meet deadlines
Effectively interact with all IT staff members, Data Center Operations, and Business users
Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with department heads and end users regarding pertinent IT activities
Provide guidance, leadership and mentoring to less experienced staff members.
Train others on use of technical or functional tools
Other duties as assignedSkill Requirements:
In depth knowledge of applications development, including systems analysis and design techniques, problem determination, project control, contract/vendor administration and structured system development methodologies
Strong analytical skills; ability to perform complex systems analysis and draw conclusions by relating information from different sources, including root-cause analysis and issue resolution
Demonstrated experience in object oriented programming/design
Experienced in the design of Web base e-commerce applications
6 years experience in Visual Basic 6.0 applications development and support services
Demonstrated experience with C# and .NET
SQL Server 7.0/2000, ODBC, and ADO (Stored Procedures, Scripting, Database Management, etc)
Experience with COM/DCOM Packages
Experience working in N-tiered architecture environment
Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development
System development life cycle experience, with particular strength in analysis, design, coding and testing activities
Ability to assess business needs and determine appropriate technical solutions using the latest IT trends and standards
Retail background highly preferred
Knowledge of Island Pacific, Galvin and/or Ecometry packages desirable
Experience in RPG and iSeries applications development and support services desirable
Ability to work in a team environment
Strong ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize accordingly
Willingness to document all work according to internal standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the business community, IT team, and software vendors Ability to communicate technical information both orally and in writing Good verbal and written communication skills
