Software Architects are responsibile for guiding the inception, design, development and implementation of Walgreens systems and applications.

Responsibilities:
This person will be a member of the Architecture Services team (part of Reuse Architecture and Integration Services area) providing architecture assistance across different projects and IT teams within Walgreens. They will be expected to develop expertise in Walgreens adopted tools, products, frameworks and technologies and assist IT / project delivery teams with adoption and appropriate use.

They will be assigned to projects where they will be expected to:
Understand key business / organization requirements, drivers and constraints. Map them to IT drivers and tools/technologies. Help with application of currently supported technologies using Architecture Blueprints, POCs, reference implementations, guidelines, best practices etc as necessary. Focus on non-functional requirements and abilities like interoperability, performance and security. Understand and manage key project issues and risks. Communicate and escalate to IT Management as necessary. Participate in performance and acceptance testing. Promote all forms of Reuse - Approach Reuse. Component Reuse. Framework Reuse. Service Reuse. Event Reuse. Application / UI Reuse.

Qualifications:
Computer Science degree or equivalent experience. At least 5 yrs of relevant industry experience. At least two years of which should be in a similar role.

Must have first hand experience in Java, and J2EE application development. Experience with Web Services, Messaging and Application Integration is desired.
Must understand and be able to apply design and architecture patterns and techniques.

Experience with Websphere Application Server is strongly desired. Experience with webMethods Integration Platform or other EAI tools, Business Intelligence tools like Business Objects, ETL tools like Ascential, Portals, Rule Processing Engines etc is desired, but not required.

Prior experience in leading and mentoring developers is a plus

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and required. Strong presentation skills are required (candidate should be able to help management understand the business value of complex technical solutions and architectures).
