Senior XML Developer

MSD is an employee-owned company of over 600 professionals who support the diverse technical, scientific, and administrative needs of the Federal government. We are currently searching for an experienced Document Processing Technician to support one of our clients at the National Institutes of Health. This opportunity is permanent, full-time, and on site in Washington, DC.

As a Senior XML Developer, you will provide expertise and leadership to the team responsible for the design and implementation of a XML & SGML based electronic authoring and publishing applications. Our goal is to build a scaleable XML authoring and publishing framework and technology platform based on open standards and best of breed technologies. The successful candidate will provide the expertise in enterprise application architecture and integration and lead efforts in architecture, design, and implementation. You will be responsible for producing architectural and design artifacts that are consistent with the requirements and guidelines of the organization’s enterprise architecture framework. Additionally, you will interface with user departments to gather and clarify requirements, write technical
specifications and make presentations to the business community, management and non-IS personnel. You will assist in instructing and checking the work of other team members as well as provide assistance and technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates will possess at least 10 years of IT experience.
Candidates must possess the following knowledge and skills:
* A minimum of 5 years experience in manipulating XML data using standards based APIs such as DOM or SAX
* Solid experience with transformation technologies including XSLT
* Knowledge of print publishing technologies for the creation of PDF and pages based output
* Knowledge of Web publishing technologies including both client-and server-side dynamic content including JavaScript, Servlets, and basic HTML
* Current knowledge of commercially available XML publishing products and ability to remain knowledgeable about changes in the industry (examples, PTC Epic & Datalogic Pager)
* Excellent object-oriented design & programming skills, including strong working knowledge and experience in using UML and design patterns
* Experience working in a team of application developers and source code repositories
* Development experience with Windows and UNIX (i.e. Linux, Solaris)
