JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer participates in developing an Enterprise approach to system specification, engineering, operational, administrative, capacity management, maintenance and support services for the H&R Block information technology infrastructure. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer scope of control typically includes one or more of the following:
Networks and data communication,
Telecommunication systems,
Server and/or desktop systems,
Storage and data management solutions,
Information Security
Application management and support.
This position provides technical research and recommendations as needed to supplement the Lead and Principal Engineer, provides support in the areas of technical support escalation, operational logistics, incident and problem resolution services resulting in deployments with optimal Mean Time to Restore (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) characteristics. REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or the equivalent through a combination of education and work experience.
Experience solving UNIX Systems technical problems as well as performing Unix Systems administration.
Demonstrated technical mentoring.
Advanced detailed knowledge and understanding of HP-UX. Proven knowledge of HP-UX internals, kernel tuning, database tuning constructs, architecture design, problem analysis, and performance monitoring tools.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following configurations: High availability Clusters, Fault Tolerance, and Fail-over Configuration.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following Operating Systems: HP-UX 11, SUN Solaris 2.6/2.8, Linux.
Strong analytical ability, including system design and capacity, operations methodology, and error detection and resolution techniques.
Knowledge of industry standards, trends and general business processes.
Ability to maintain security and confidentiality of information accessible on managed systems.
Project management skills including the ability to manage shifting priorities and workloads.
Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as customer service skills. Experience working with end users to resolve system problems.
Preferred Qualifications
Seven years comprehensive UNIX Systems and industry experience.
Knowledge of EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage System with Timefinder Hot-backup capability.
NetBackup Administration in a UNIX environment, preferably on NetBackup 5.1 and 6.0.
Extensive experience supporting UNIX Systems in a large, multi-user, and multi-tier environment.
Detailed knowledge and experience of automating system administration duties using shell/perl scripting.
Hewlett-Packard Certified Professional (HPCP) in HP-UX.
SUN Microsystem Certified Professional (SMCP) in Solaris 2.x.
Extensive experience supporting SUN E-3500 and 4500 Systems, and HP-UX on PA-RISC & Itanium systems in 7x24 operation with a thorough understanding of high availability, redundancy, and fault tolerant configurations.
Experience supporting operating system requirements of Oracle, Sybase, and UDB database applications.
Experience supporting Clarify, PeopleSoft, JDE, SAS, Openview, ITO, Interwoven, Apache, iPlanet, and other enterprise applications operating on HP UNIX systems.
Experience supporting HP Openview IT Operations for Enterprise Network Management with escalation of detected anomalies.
