Senior TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) Administrator

This is a 6-month contract assignment with our direct client, a large retail chain company, located in Montvale, N.J.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs analytical, technical, and administrative work involved in planning, installing, and maintaining the TSM backup and recovery environment. Key responsibilities include managing the day to day TSM Server operations, coordinating backup schedules, performing system restores, working with Operations to manage the shared tape library infrastructure and tape inventory, and participating in disaster recovery planning and exercises. The TSM Administrator provides guidance and input for project teams in relation to backup and recovery capabilities as well as scheduling. This position also includes after hours on call responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS
POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Four year degree in a relevant field preferred or an equivalent amount of post-secondary education and experience

7+ year’s relevant Information Technology experience

5-7 year’s experience as a TSM Administrator with responsibilities similar to those listed for this position is REQUIRED

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsible for all aspects of the TSM environment including but not limited to:

- Managing and monitoring all TSM server operational processes.

- Defining, scheduling, and monitoring backup jobs.

- Performing application and system restores on demand as needed.

- Providing operational and management level reporting for the overall TSM environment.

- Overseeing the maintenance and performance of tape drives and tape library infrastructure.

- Managing the onsite and offsite tape inventory as required.

- Planning and participating in disaster recovery exercises and events.

- Forecasting TSM infrastructure capacity needs.

- Developing and maintaining thorough documentation on all TSM functions and backup jobs.

Functions under general supervision, and provides cross-training and mentoring to other team members.

Functions as a consultant to other IS groups as a recognized backup and recovery leader.

Provides upward, downward, and lateral communication regarding the status of backups and the TSM environment.

Prioritizes work based on departmental priorities and system criticality.

Responsible for performing complex analysis.

Responsible for the definition and design of specifications.

Proactively identifies problems and makes recommendations regarding solutions.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

TSM System Administration knowledge and hands on skills.

TSM Tivoli Data Protection agents, including TDP agents for Oracle and Exchange.

TSM Operational Reporting including report generation and automation.

AIX 4.33 through 5.3.

Windows Server 2000 and 2003.

Oracle RMAN and its interaction with TSM TDP for Oracle.

IBM 3494 libraries and 3590 tape drives.

Familiar with SAN networking and IBM storage solutions.

Skilled in conceptualizing creative solutions, documenting them and presenting/selling them to senior management.

Solid project management skills.

Strong service oriented customer focus with ability to manage client expectations.

Ability to present and explain technical information in business terms in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.

Changes direction quickly when needed.

Demonstrated competency the technologies listed for this position.
