Senior System Administrator

Summary:

Administers and implements AS/400 system activities to maintain a secure and healthy system operating environment. With limited direction, works on complex projects and often multiple phases of a project. Has good understanding of the business or function for which application is designed. This individual regularly provides guidance and training to other team members in the area of operational support and processes.

Must be extremely proficient in IBM AS/400, including software and hardware installations and data replication. The Sr. System Administrator will be responsible for support, infrastructure design and architecture of AS/400 systems and applications, locally and remotely.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The person is responsible for the following primary job duties, either in a primary or secondary (backup) role. Other job duties related to this role may be added based upon a business and/or company need.

Recommends, configures, implements, maintains and supports the infrastructure, including performance and security in accordance with the standards set by the company.
Evaluates forecasted business growth and historical data to assess adequacy of existing hardware, and recommends purchase of equipment.
Reviews daily logs and reports to detect recurring slowdowns or errors.
Consults with software and hardware vendors and other information sources to solve problems and proactive prevent problems.
Meets with other departments and peers to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and service to users.
Updates all operations and policy and procedure documentation accordingly.
Performs proactive system evaluations, performance tuning and capacity planning to ensure adequate computer resources to support continued growth.
Builds strategic relationships with peers and suppliers.
Evaluates new software and hardware to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing software and hardware.
Provide 2nd level support for data center hardware and software issues.
Maintain and audit various monitoring processes and applications in the data centers.
Perform all other necessary tasks as requested by the immediate supervisor.
Provide reports of utilization of technologies & services.
Perform 4 Disaster Recovery test per year at a Sungard location.
Provide security documentation and audits of AS/400’s and applications at data centers.
Assist with internal support duties as needed.
Install all vendor software package upgrades (including PTFs and Cum’s) in a timely manner.
Installs, upgrades and implements systems hardware and etc in a timely manner.
Prepare for, test, and participate in any and all disasters or emergencies as required.
Monitors and provides feedback as needed to operations staff regarding backups, scheduled jobs, and system / error messages.

Travel / Shift Work Expectations:
As needed travel to perform disaster recovery efforts.
On-call rotation required providing 24x7x365 support.
Core hours attendance (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. M-F) adjusted as needed for maintenance windows.
Occasional travel for continuing education or other necessary business related activities.
REQUIREMENTS
Main desired skills: 5+ years of AS400 administration and 2+ years of AS400 HA Administration experience.

Required Experience/Education:
Bachelors Degree (within a technical or business discipline) or the equivalent technical training and 5+ years of related work experience.
5+ years of AS/400 Administration experience
2+ years of AS/400 HA administration experience (iTera, Vision Solutions, Lakeview, etc.).
Experience with LPAR and HMC administration and setup.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and standard services (Telnet, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong project management skills.

Desired Experience/Education (in addition to required):
5+ years of AS/400 programming experience (CL, RPG, etc.)
3+ years Windows Administration experience.
3+ years of DB/2 Administration.
2+ years of Cisco (Router/Switch/CSS/Firewall)Administration Experience
2+ years of Linux Administration experience
2+ years of PBX Administration (Siemens preferred)
Experience with AS/400 NAS and SAN solutions.
