Senior Solutions Architect

Among Riverside’s flagship products are the Iowa Tests, the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Tests, the Edusoft Assessment Management System, Assess2Know, and the Woodcock-Johnson III. As a charter member of the Association of Test Publishers, Riverside serves both the K–12 educational markets and the clinical assessment market with print, CD-ROM and online assessment tools. Riverside Publishing Company was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Houghton Mifflin in 1979. Our offices are headquartered in Itasca, IL, a Northwest suburb of Chicago. We are currently expanding our IT staff and actively seeking a Senior Solutions Architect. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: The role requires both broad and deep knowledge relating to software application development technologies and the ability to architect solutions by mapping business problems to reusable end-to-end technology solutions. It also requires demonstrated skills in cross-group collaboration and coordination across all organizational groups. The Senior Application Architect conceptualizes solutions at distinct levels of abstraction and contributes to the overall solution design. Analyzes and designs complex, object-oriented software through the inclusion of design patterns and reference architectures. Designs flexible solutions can easily adapt to future business needs. The Senior Application Architect will transform current-state application architecture into a service-oriented architecture. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Analysis: Analyze information requirements specified by the user community for developing object models and application architecture required to support those requirements. Provides technical alternative trade off analysis.
Design: Development of object models, recommending development tools and platforms, producing architectural documentation and diagrams, and serving as a resource and/or subject matter expert to the team developing the solution. Research and Development: Prototype and proof of concept development. Researching new and emerging technologies and providing recommendations on the application of researched technologies. Performing product evaluations. Standards: Ensures adherence to corporate standards. Drafts architectural standards and proposals for management review, including developing and recommending design patterns, naming policies, coding standards, guidelines, and procedures.


Requirements

Travel Percentage: 0%SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: .Net Technologies (C#, ASP.NET, VB.NET, .Net Framework), C++, Java Technologies (Spring, Hibernate) , Oracle, SQL, XML, Web Services. In-depth knowledge of object-oriented design principles. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent communication and team work skills. Ability to assimilate emerging technologies, as well as the ability to transform this technical knowledge into solutions. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Required:
· 3-5 years application architecture experience
· 7 -10 years software development experience
· Experience with large, distributed, high-volume transactional systems
· Experience with implementing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
· Experience with object modeling tools (e.g. Rational Rose) Preferred:
· Technical certification in application architecture
· Experience in the education industry
· Experience with OTS Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) packages.
· Experience with OTS Enterprise Portal software (e.g. WLP)
