Reports To: Director, Application Technology ServicesJob Summary:The Senior SQL DBA has primary responsibility for monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, maintenance, support and enhancements to the SQL environments within a global business environment. He/She will be responsible for creating and maintaining the strategy for SQL upgrades, backups, consolidation of databases into a clustered environment and patching. He/She will develop reports to obtain performance, compliance and other data from internal ICT systems such as SMS, MOM and Remedy. He/She will provide backup support for the Oracle DBA.
Responsibilities: Support the availability of production databases and related applications in both stand alone and clustered SQL environments.
Maintain database performance by monitoring space, CPU usage, fragmentation of data, and by tuning queries, scheduling jobs, setting alerts, etc.
Provide trending reports on the capacity, performance and usage on a monthly basis.
Develop and deliver a patching strategy for the SQL environment
Work proactively with application owners to migrate databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005, as necessary.
Work proactively with application owners to migrate database changes into test, acceptance, and production environments.
Develop SQL reports to provide data on IT internal systems for performance and scorecard measurements.
Develop, communicate, and carry out procedures designed to facilitate recovery from database failure, such as online backups, archiving, and exports
Plan, document and provide support for Disaster Recovery of the SQL environment.
Work with security team to establish standards and policies to ensure enterprise information assets are properly secured and protected by appropriate access management and privacy controls.
Document system configurations, support processes and procedures.
Mentor and cross-train peers as required to fill support gaps.Technology Solutions Development and Deployment
Understand the information security implications of technology solutions and ensure they comply with the Information Security policies and processes. Undertakes proactive measures to ensure compliance with the Information Security policies and processes is met.Project Management

Maintain up to date knowledge of new SQL releases and where the business can make use of new features or performance enhancements.
Communicate new release information and develop/deliver informative sessions on SQL to ICT personnel.
Participate in quarterly information exchanges with the business.
Mentor regional staff on basic monitoring, troubleshooting and best practices in a SQL environment.Communications
Ensure timely and appropriate communication of information required to make effective use of our technology solutions.
Assist with the development and compliance of ICT policies and processes.
Contribute to department- and company-level communication forums.New Releases and Upgrades
Maintain knowledge of new releases and functionality that would add value to the business. Communicate changes in new releases and roadmaps for delivery to application teams.
Develop and maintain a plan for SQL upgrades.
REQUIREMENTS
1. 4-year degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
2. 5+ years of technology-related work experience.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
4. Ability to interface with a variety of technical and business personnel with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.
5. Solid communication skills (both oral and written) to direct, organize and communicate with others.Required Skills:
5-7 years experience installing, configuring, monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting SQL environments running on Windows 2000/2003.
5-7 years experience building reports with SQL Server 2000 / 2005.
5 years experience backing up and restoring SQL databases. Also, experience planning and documenting SQL restore procedures for disaster recovery.
Installation, configuration, troubleshooting and tuning experience with SQL Server database clustering.
Certification in database administration for Microsoft SQL.
Excellent Verbal/Written Communications Skills.
Flexibility to work in a global support environment.
Experience with maintaining Oracle databases or willingness to learn this skill to fill-in for Oracle DBA when he/she is out of the office.Helpful Skills:
Database administration experience in Oracle 9i and 10g.
Oracle Financials Application (middleware/java stack) experience.
Experience installing, configuration and troubleshooting Java and Apache,
Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux versions 2, 3 and 4.
Veritas Storage Framework experience, including Volume manager and Clustering.
