The DBA is accountable for all the application databases that incorporate MS SQL Server, Oracle or any other database technology as part of the application architecture. Responsibilities include database performance tuning and monitoring, database cloning, data replication, data warehousing, optimizing the DB for performance and stability, and recognizing critical conditions proactively. The applications DBA will ensure that adequate recovery procedures are in place, that database backups are being done and tested. Additionally, in providing for the needs of application team, maintaining application environments, migrating software to or executing SQL scripts in production environments, applying patches, performing code review/optimizing SQL queries, interfaces and data conversions.

Position Objectives:
Demonstrate full comprehension and maintain proficiency of the architectural components/platform for Oracle and MS SQL Database environmentsSet direction and make key decisions about database design and data architecture using technical, business and strategic informationManage the data warehouse architecture and associated data analysis/reporting softwareShow the ability to understand and make efficient use of the tools available in order to efficiently complete tasksSet standards for the development organization and provide direction on database concepts as they relate to application performance

Essential duties:
Manage and maintain multiple instances of Oracle and MS SQL DB (development, staging and production).Perform backups and restores as necessary and upon requestSupport and maintain data analysis/reportingCreate and maintain ER diagrams for the databasesUnderstand and apply patches to the DB softwareParticipate in planning & design of application technology architecture and hardware configurationManage database capacity and work with application team in performance tuning and monitoringEstablish and implement policies and procedures pertaining to data baseReview and optimize SQL code and stored procedures written by application developersParticipate in meetings with systems engineers in trouble shooting DB related issues

Required skills:
5+ years experience in database administration and development of large databasesExperience with MS SQL Server 7 or MS SQL Server 2000 and/or Oracle 8/9iExperience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Recovery Manager (RMAN), Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), MS SQL Backup APIs and MS SQL Mirroring/Cluster TechnologyData modeling skillsStrong problem solving, decision-making, and analytical abilitiesExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to work in a team environment with application developers

Education or Equivalent Experience: BS Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience
