Project Manager, Software

Summary

Our Client has developed a revolutionary new system for navigating multimedia on the television. Their innovative approach incorporates proprietary application software, database and remote control technologies to deliver a highly intuitive, visually rich and exciting set of products that will change the way consumers watch television. These products will be marketed and distributed by consumer electronics and PC companies through retail stores and by television service providers (e.g. cable, satellite and telco) as part of their future offerings. Our client is a fast-growing start-up company that is financed by some of the top venture capital firms in the country. The Software Project Manager will work in the User Experience organization and will be responsible for planning and overseeing the successful completion of software applications across a multidisciplinary team of interaction designers, usability engineers, visual designers, and software engineers.

Responsibilities
• Create and manage the overall application development schedule based on product requirements
• Oversee the day to day development process such that release of new applications is to committed shipment schedule and with expected functionality and quality
• Work closely with product management to ensure resources and schedules are consistent with requested features
• Coordinate the project implementation across a multi-disciplinary team: interaction design, visual design, software development
• Communicate ongoing project status to appropriate stakeholders
• Author specific project documents as required by the development plan
• Initiate and manage external third party development contracts
REQUIREMENTS
• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• Minimum 3 years professional software development experience
• Minimum 3 years experience in software project management including project scheduling, tracking and risk management
• Proficiency in MS Project
• Proven ability to complete development projects through cross-team planning and execution
• Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Mature, self-motivated and able to work well in a group environment

Desirable Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Technology Management, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• Experience with projects involving user interface and visual design
• Experience with AJAX/JavaScript or ActionScript
• Experience with object-oriented design and programming techniques such as Java, C++ or C#
• Proven technical leadership or management experience
• Experience with development of consumer software products

Additional Skill Sets
• Product marketing or product management experience
• Contract negotiation skills
