SUMMARY: Provide technical and organizational leadership for database environment. Oversee development and organization of databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies. Provides Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the business.DUTIES:
Essential Functions:
1.Develop a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problems.
2.Develop and maintain a security scheme for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery if necessary.
3.Provide a working model of the transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning.
4.Provide management of the database and transaction-processing environment.
5.Provide database management including Configuration, security, troubleshooting, and resource monitoring backup and recovery and reporting.
6.Train and develop technical support and applications staff to better utilize on-line processing databases and the enterprise's computing environment.
7.Provide leadership during the development and enhancement of the enterprise's production applications including working with applications, technical support and operations during the design, development and implementation of applications.
8.Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed.
9.Provide both the physical and logical database administration functions and assist in the development of the database and computing environments.
10.Provide documentation and standards for the database environment.Education: BS degree with major related to Computer Science OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
Experience: Five+ years experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server
Skills:Knowledge of database structures from a logical and physical standpoint. Knowledge of backup and recovery processes for Oracle, SQL Server and/or Progress. Understanding of data modeling tools such as Erwin and Rational Rose. Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
