A little about us:
Chinook Wireless is a new company, headquartered in Great Falls, MT, with our accounting and switch operations located in Wayne, PA, that is operating digital wireless telephone service throughout Montana. We developed as a result of an acquisition of the wireless businesses and assests of both Blackfoot Communications of Western Montana and 3 Rivers Wireless of Central and Eastern Montana. Our new company will be implementing many extremely positive changes for our existing and potential customers over the next few months. Chinook Wireless Switches From CDMA to GSM - 2006-05-23
Chinook Wireless has selected Nokia to build a GSM/GPRS/EDGE network throughout Montana, USA. Nokia is supplying the entire radio and core network, along with network services. The companies have signed a five-year supply contract covering equipment, network planning services, deployment services and Nokia Care services. Chinook Wireless will be deploying one of North America's first 3GPP Release 4 network architectures, using Nokia's mobile softswitch solution MSC Server System. Additionally, Nokia is providing a portfolio of services, including network planning, installation, integration, and testing.

"Nokia's GSM/GPRS/EDGE solution will enable Chinook to deliver state-of-the-art digital wireless services. Nokia says that the GSM/GPRS/EDGE network will replace Chinook Wireless' CDMA network.

Job Summary: The NOC Technician I will be part of the Chinook Wireless Network Operations Team for its GSM network. The NOC Technician I will primarily monitor, test, and maintain remote BTS cell sites and local core network element activity in order to provide clear voice and data paths and optimal system reliability for customers.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitors PCS system daily for degradation using test equipment and system tools.
Generate and analyze system reports in order to find network trends and problems.
Works with Customer Service Liaison to troubleshoot user voice and data issues.
Respond to and resolve system problems and trouble tickets in minimal timeframe.
Performs hands on maintenance and testing of Nokia DX200 equipment.
Maintains and troubleshoots (as required) all auxiliary equipment and systems associated with the switch, including GPS, DSX, SMSC, VM, etc.
Coordinates and assists in the implementation of new software updates, hardware replacements, and enhancements.
Assist RF technicians in resolving Base Station problems regardless of the nature (i.e., T1, Microwave, implementation of new equipment to support growth).
Ensure all system and billing backup procedures are completely followed through the verification process.
Interfaces with internal departments, outside vendors and utility companies to gather information and resolve problems.

REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Company policies and procedures.
Telecommunication industry standards, preferably in Wireless (GSM, CDMA)
Various electronics/digital switching principles, including TCP/IP, ATM, Frame Relay, VPN, PSTN, etc.
Transmission test set, digital test system and telecommunications hand tools.
Safety precautions in the presence of high voltage, HVAC, and gas suppression systems


Skill to:
Provide excellent oral and written communications.
Work with Client/server based architecture.
Work under little or no supervision.


Ability to:
Provide excellent oral and written communications.
Operate a PC with decent MS Windows and Office familiarity
Distinguish colors for safety (wiring, alarms) purposes.
Work on all rotational shifts and weekends when needed and be on-call for emergency repairs after business hours.
Work well with others and alone during specified time of the day if needed.


General Company Requirements:
High School Diploma with training in electronics or a related technical discipline.
A minimum of 1+ year(s) of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry
Good technical background with general understanding of latest technological developments, including T1, T3, DACS, ISDN, GSM, test equipment, voice & data system switching.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills
Ability to demonstrate basic problem solving abilities
Ability to demonstrate basic leadership abilities
Ability to demonstrate basic project management skills
Ability to demonstrate strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to demonstrate performance stability by maintaining performance level under varying degrees of pressure and uncertainty.


Education and Experience:
High School Diploma with training in electronics or a related technical discipline
A minimum of 1+ year(s) of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry
