Network Engineer (MMP)Position Description
Position Summary:This position is responsible for planning, implementing and coordinating the procurement, installation, enhancement and operational support of a network and networking systems. This position will also provide primary Linux system administration and secondary Windows system administration support.
Responsible for network design, administration, uptime, performance, security, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of network protocol behavior
Responsible for the daily monitoring of the network and security systems.
Develops and follows procedures to handle network and security fault events.
Monitors and reports on network and system capacity utilization.
Applies continuous improvement techniques to ensure the network and security infrastructure attains maximum performance, security and availability and provides reports regarding this topic to management.
Must ensure that the LAN/WAN environment remains secure and appropriate recovery and redundancy issues are addressed.
Provides support for collaboration tools (procurement, installation, configuration, management)
Provides networking and security technical guidance to Engineering team, Support staff, and other staff groups as neededMinimum Job Qualifications:
Education/Training ?
BA or BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Network Administration or equivalentBusiness Experience ?
6+ years experience in network systems administration
In-depth knowledge of the definition, design, and implementation of network communications and solutionsQualifications ?
Proven knowledge and skill in administration of Linux and Windows IT networks and systems is required
Competency in planning, designing, installing and configuring local and wide area networks, including building, configuring and maintaining network switches, routers, servers and network storage devices (SAN)
Knowledge of network security management, access and authentication, data integrity, business recovery, operation environment requirements and physical security
Knowledge of network data communications and computer system diagnostic aids and tools and the ability to isolate and resolve hardware and software problems
Is able to appropriately prioritize LAN/WAN faults, then diagnose and resolve problems in the shortest possible time all while under pressure from the various other impacted business groups.
Excellent organizational and workflow skills; ability to work on simultaneous projects with diverse working groups
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Superior organizational and project management skills
Ability to work well within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Must be able to communicate effectively with all parts of the organization while under pressure.Preferred Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of Red Hat Linux AS version 4.x system administration tasks and maintenance system automation shell-scripting is highly desirable
Thorough knowledge of advanced protocol/trace analysis, statistical analysis and performance analysis. Experience with sniffers and a SNMP-based network monitoring tools is a plus
Knowledge and experiencing installing, configuring and administering the following collaboration tools is a plus: Borland (StarTeam, Caliber, TogetherJ), Mercury, Sharepoint
Knowledge of administering software configuration management (SCM) and version control systems is a plus.Working Conditions:
