Provides full-performance technical support, troubleshooting and design of networks and networked environments.
Maintains compliance to security protocols, including enforcement and administration of network security policies and services through firewalls, proxy services, LANs, WANs, VPNs, and VoIP.
Designs and validates the technical accuracy of covered communications technologies for converged voice, video, and data solutions.
Provides second-level technical support for network systems, including on-call technical support.
Creates schedules for network testing and maintenance.
Plans, designs, tests, evaluates, implements, integrates, and validates network systems and services.
Initiates proactive preventative maintenance of IT equipment and recommends policy changes.
Assists in creating and maintaining written procedures and polices for the networking environment.
Prepares feasibility and cost/benefit analysis of new network software and hardware, as directed.
Conducts technology evaluations and selections, including the development of evaluation criteria and procedures, common vendor product research, and RFI/RFQ/RFP development.
Creates documentation and provides technical direction, guidance, and training to Network Engineer Associates and other, as required or requested.
Works with level-one and level-three technical support to provide and/or lead troubleshooting efforts for JTS LANs, WANs, and VoIP.
Creates schedules for network testing and maintenance, and tracks changes to the network environment.
Implements network recovery procedures and tests network recovery mechanisms.
Participates in the analysis and design of architectural alternatives.
Participates in teams tasked with the design, integration, implementation, and validation of specific networking systems and services.
Documents all networking support provided to the users.
Performs other related duties, including special projects, as requested or required.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
Leads the development of company network systems and components and designs and builds such systems.
Leads major technical projects and identifies and commits resources.
Provides network direction, products, and services to suppliers.
Takes the lead in resolving complex problems.
Guides and directs less experienced designers.
Influences computing budget funding and resources.
Prefer an advanced degree in computer science or related technical discipline and at least 6 years' experience with telecommunications networks and team leadership.
Knowledge/Experience:
Demonstrated proficiency providing full-performance technical support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and monitoring of local (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) networks.
Demonstrated proficiency establishing and maintaining network domains and naming and addressing services, including DNS, NetWare NDS, and NT Domains, tools, and operational practices, voice communications and systems. Demonstrated proficiency and user-level knowledge of Unix, Windows, Windows NT, and Mac OS operating environments.
Demonstrated proficiency maintaining network hardware including routers, DSUs, CSUs, switches, load balancers, wireless, VPN, and firewalls.
Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency establishing Dial Plans, IP Telephony administration, VoIP, Videoconferencing, Voice Gateways and Gatekeepers, switching and routing theory, IP Communications protocol strategies, IP Communications management tools, theories and practice, and IP Communications troubleshooting techniques and tools.
Demonstrated proficiency and administrator-level knowledge of Cisco equipment and technologies including Call Manager, MCU, MeetingPlace, IPCC, Gatekeeper, and integration with Polycom multimedia communication solutions. Demonstrated proficiency with Network Management and Enterprise Management systems.
Demonstrated proficiency with network protocols including TCP/IP, QoS, and the implementation of network services in desktop and host environments.
Demonstrated proficiency in T1/E1, DS-3, ISDN PRI, Ethernet, VPN, Firewall, wireless and other networking protocols.
Demonstrated proficiency establishing and enforcing voice related policies.
Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience using diplomacy to negotiate, to resolve service conflicts, and to persuade others to embrace strategies proposed.
