Manager - Project Management

The Manager - Project Management opportunity is within the HSBC Technology and Services Credit Card Systems Project Control & Rapid Application Development group. A Manager - Project Management will manage a team of project managers as well as through project teams, the planning, design, development, enhancement and maintenance of business systems or subsystems, and large budget, high-risk projects within assigned area of responsibility. They will assess project viability and recommend strategies and tactics to satisfy their customer needs. This person will collaborate with customers, staff, IT colleagues and other stakeholders to identify customer requirements, assess impacts to other data and systems, consider available technologies, compare costs and benefits and recommend solutions.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Manage assigned personnel and oversee the day-to-day operations of the projects in progress. Plans, organizes, directs and oversees the activites of several projects and project managers.
Manage aspects of coordinated project reporting, weekly status reports, weekly project tracking, monthly budget tracking, project funding. Ensures project budgets, actual and estimated hours are tracked and communicated to stakeholders and management.
Provides support to project managers. Supports project management tools and processes. Work with Corporate and Group entities to define and deliver domestic and global project support functions.
Improve the delivery process of projects through the use of a structured methodology. Evaluate project management and pmo maturity levels and promote continuous improvement of project management practices. Act as a change agent.
Ability to leverage analytical skills to distill large volumes of data into clear, concise action plans aimed at improving the delivery of projects.
Build strong partnerships with internal customers to add value and extend the traditional model of services. Raise the overall perception of the pmo through efforts that increase value and support of project delivery.
PMI training or certification is strongly desired. Ability to achieve PMP certification in first year of employment.
Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Presentation skills and ability to facilitate group meetings is also required. Strong leadership skills required: ability to make decisions, reach consensus, identify and handle project and personnel issues, including elevating issues to upper management as necessary.
Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities. Ability to reprioritize deliverables and to respond to unexpected changes is required.
Complete other related duties as assigned, provide management direction to foster selection, development and reward of subordinates while contributing to initiatives in support of the Company’s Diversity programs.

job Requirements


The Manager - Project Management position requires an individual with:

A Bachelor’s degree with major or minor in Finance, MIS, Economics, General Business, Computer Science or related field

A minimum of eight to ten years experience in applications systems assignments with medium to large scale projects, including three - five years in project management assignments.

Master’s degree in MIS, MBA or related field highly desired.

The ability to lead, motivate and develop personnel; strong people and team management skills particularly with project and cross functional teams; a working knowledge of information systems technology; proficiency in project management, proficiency in general finance and budgeting activities, analytics and quality assurance techniques; an understanding of businesses supported.

Effective communication skills - verbal and written, awareness of industry trends, competitive pressures and products, risk assessment methodology, and their application to business and technical aspects of business initiatives.

A focus on project execution and delivery, the ability to apply technologies to business initiatives, influence strategic direction, and identify and apply productivity improvements and expertise to business and technical aspects of project delivery.
