MS SQL Server DBA 23520

Purpose: Specific Project Duties: o For a large Microsoft SQL Server environment that has multiple customers, applications and databases:
o Refine and develop process used to ensure all database IDs have appropriate approvals.
o Ensure all database IDs have appropriate approvals.
o Implement required security controls to meet audit requirements.
o Design and implement required processes to ensure ongoing audit compliance for databases.
o Develop short term and long term processes and resource requirements for verifying database backups.
o Verify backups

Ongoing duties:
o Work with development teams providing DBA services required for teams to be successful.
o Perform database administration and management activities in a safe, recoverable and professional manner that ensures the optimal operation of all of the database environments.
o Upholds the enterprise policy guidelines as well and recommends new and improved guidelines to insure compatibility and better service for end-users.
o Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment, hardware and software to the users satisfaction.
o Identify potential service level problems before they occur and notify appropriate parties.
o Stay abreast of the most current release of SQL Server and the compatibility issues with operating systems, third party software and utilities ? test and evaluate accordingly.
o Log Technical Assistant Requests (TARs) as necessary and effectively work with Microsoft.
o Maintain up-to-date plans for disaster recovery and fail over capabilities, test accordingly.
o Perform capacity monitoring, short term and long term capacity planning working with development resources, system administrators and system architects.
o Propose solutions, identify tools, and generate procedures for creating an efficient, consistent repeatable environment.
o Use and deployment of DBMS software, data management tool and utilities, data warehouse and replication tools.
o Maintain security according to best practices and generate security solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements

Participate in DBA on-call rotation, expectation 1 week out of every 5 weeks.
Be available for weekend and off hour work.

This position will support customer critical Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Candidate will possess:
o Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
o 5+ years, in diverse technological environments
o 4+ years supporting Microsoft SQL Server databases
o Experience with IT audits and the impact to database administration
o Experience with high availability environments
o Experience in disaster recovery planning and testing
o Understanding of systems development processes, as well as a solid understanding of business processes
o Strong analytical, judgment and communication skills.
o Ability to work effectively with team/others and share knowledge
o Ability to work through multiple issues with SQL Server using Microsoft support.
