Junior / Assistant IT Project Manager
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Assists project managers in coordinating product development activities with a focus on maintaining project/product configuration control per the product development process and design control requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
Specific Responsibilities
•Manage and coordinate all phases of the systems development life cycle for multiple projects across multiple platforms or managing technical infrastructure projects.
• Make recommendations regarding hiring and retention of staff and assign, motivate, evaluate, train, counsel assigned staff.
•Work with technical staff and business areas to plan and coordinate project tasks, resolve issues, and establish critical success factors.
•Work with team members to assist them in resolving problems, developing skills and knowledge, and acquiring resources to complete tasks and projects.
•Work with the appropriate business partners to assist them in planning, identifying and forecasting systems needs, and planning for appropriate infrastructure and resources.
•Manage teams of assigned analysts and consultants.
•Deliver projects on time/budget.
•Communication of project strategy, plans, objectives, to team.
•Project Delivery, Project Planning, Project budget, Project risks.
•Driver for RFP activities related to the delivery of the project.
•Consistent delivery of PM methodology/metrics
Detailed Activities
•Project Management and Coordination: Takes specific direction from project managers in assisting with the creation of clearly written product requirements, specifications, project plans, etc. Drives focused aspects of a project through the Technology and Product Development Process ensuring best practices are followed, actual performance against the project plan is tracked and reported, design history files are assembled and maintained and to ensure compliance requirements are met.
•Configuration Administration: Takes specific direction from project managers in coordinating the creation, review and approval of requirements documents and compliance documents ensuring proper document configuration and release status relative to on-going product development activities. As required, coordinates the review and approval of product development process document deliverables.
•Data Administration: Takes specific direction from project managers in maintaining project management databases including the Resource database, Issues database, Lessons Learned database, etc. Ensures data integrity and accuracy; generates reports as required.
•Meetings & Presentations: Takes specific direction from project managers in scheduling and conducting regular meetings to review, track and coordinate focused product development activities. Make presentations on development status for current assigned projects.
•Communication: Takes specific direction from project managers in providing verbal presentations and producing effective written reports covering all aspects of program management.
Required Skills/Competencies
•Degrees: BS in Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.
•Training, Management: Project management coursework.
•Communication: Must be effective communicating with personnel at all levels within the organization including production operators, project engineers and department managers.
•Management Style: Hands on, good with people, high energy, good motivator with a broad technical knowledge and good communication skills.
•Management Experience: Some experience in project management relating to deployment and change control activities preferred. Experience with retail environments and associated levels of service a plus.
•3 – 5 years in the IT industry.
•2 years performing project management activities.
•Five years of experience in all phases of systems and application development.
•Experience managing multiple initiatives.
•Experience managing end to end project delivery from development to transition.
•Develop project schedule in line with goals, time lines and funding.
•Manage resource allocation and financial tracking of projects.
•Experience with iterative project delivery methodologies such as Rational Unified Process.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
•Experience in retail or large scale deployment projects a plus.
•Experience with Planview preferred.
