IT Systems Administrator

The IT team provides 24x7 support of IT hardware, software, and systems in an on-site and on-call capacity for BookSurge. The successful IT System Administrator will be responsible for utilizing his/her skills to provide assistance to the operations team in resolving technical problems within the site that cover a multitude of technical disciplines.



Primary Qualifications:

System Administrators must have a good understanding of computers (both hardware and software) and a demonstrated willingness to learn and apply new technology. He/She must possess superior technical aptitude, written and oral communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with people. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability are a must. Previous experience in which high levels of initiative, judgment, and tact has been demonstrated. REQUIREMENTS


Linux and Unix System Support & troubleshooting:

o Installs basic applications

o Prepares system/application documentation with appropriate review process

o Ability to write simple scripts in some administrative language

o Troubleshoots and resolves basic systems errors and failures

o Assist more senior system administrators of the computer hardware and software systems

o Ensures security procedures are followed and enforced

o Ability to navigate through file systems, commands and utilities

o Ability to test open source or vendor software for correct operation and/or configuration

o Responsible for back-ups for systems

o Participates in on-call systems support rotation

o Builds new systems to standard specifications

o Holds a basic understanding of core internet technologies - DNS, mail transport, TCP/IP and network file systems

o Effectively communicates with customer on basic problem resolution

Responsible for the set up, take down and re-location of all computer systems at the site.

Provide support and learn the skills needed to support specific Automated Systems.

Procurement, Inventory and Asset Management of all IT equipment at the site.

Coordinating with corporate-based support groups to implement global IT changes.

Complete ownership of all IT related issues within the site, and effectively communicate with customers on basic problem resolution.
