The IT Database Administrator works on problems requiring analysis. He/she applies comprehensive functional knowledge in problem resolution. Contributes to the implementation of new methods, procedures, processes or systems and understands the impact of these changes. May lead functions and/or projects based on experience and knowledge. May be responsible for decisions impacting a team and may provide input into the decision making process for larger decisions. Applies solutions and standards which may impact a team or the organization.Primary responsibilities of this role may include:Provide Production & Development Database Administration (DBA) support for applications and projects. (SQL Server 80%, Oracle 20%)Adhering to all PwC, US IT and team standards (configuration, security, etc.), policies (change management, etc.) & procedures as documented in KCurve2, direct communications, the team file share, etc. These include but are not limited to change management, independence, established work hours, out of office, dress code, time & expense reporting, and status (KARE) reporting. Consistently completing administrative tasks (T&E, KARE Reports, etc.) on-time and without need for Supervisor follow up. Installing & upgrading database software. Performing evaluations of potential tools & utilities. Automating database tasks via scripting or through the use of tools. Updating, migrating, and refreshing database environments. Configuring monitoring and proactively reviewing statistics for errors, capacity and performance issues. Tuning and troubleshooting software & database performance issues. Ensuring database recoverability within the constraints of any application, project and other requirements. Providing input to and/or producing metrics reports. Responding quickly to requests; even if only acknowledging receipt, providing an estimated time frame and/or gathering additional information. Participating in Disaster Recovery (DR) planning and testing. Producing and/or updating documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Providing input regarding database standards and best practices for PwC. Advocating the upgrade of database products to the latest PwC standard versions. Performing multiple tasks and adjusting to changing priorities and deadlines. Negotiating deadlines with customers and keeping them informed of changes to manage their expectations. Working collaboratively with the project team and involving management only when necessary.
Informing management of current or projected issues concerning times when workload might jeopardize the ability to meet deadlines or adversely impact effectiveness. Working with management and project teams to re-prioritize, reassign or otherwise address these situations.Informing management of current or projected periods of time when workload allows for additional projects, training, time off, etc. Working with management to determine the most effective use of available time. Arranging coverage of primary responsibilities during times out of the office. Developing positive relationships with clients, peers, management, etc. Taking advantage of opportunities to work with fellow team members to assist with the development of innovative solutions within existing standards. Openly sharing knowledge, skills and insights with fellow team members and others. Seeking out Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) when faced with technical challenges in order to benefit from their experiences. Monitoring and performance tuning Recommend upgrades to software and hardware as it relates to the server and the client Installation of patches and enhancements to both clients and servers Participate in beta testing of new releases Create/maintain system documentation
Additionally, for projects the following is expected:
Attending project meetings and/or make sure other team members do. Tracking current and upcoming tasks and deadlines; being aware of project initiatives in order to plan as far in advance as possible. Keeping management informed about all aspects of the project (issues, concerns, etc.). Identifying and documenting issues/concerns with options (pros & cons) to project teams. Keeping other DBAs informed about all aspects of the project so they can provide fundamental support without notice or additional turnover. Being aware of project goals and direction, even if they are not database-related or technical in nature. Being responsible for writing, coordinating and/or "owning" documentation and procedures written by the team for a specific initiative. Imlementing database architectures. Daily monitoring of database environment Performing corrective actions for which you have primary responsibility. Response to alerts for which you have primary responsibility. Participation in on-call rotation. Arranging of support of primary responsibilities during times out of the office. Completion of all change requests within time frame indicated for environments you have primary responsibility. Enforcement of standards on the server you have primary responsibility. REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirement:
Four year degree in any business/ technical area or equivalent experience is preferred and 2-5 plus years relevant work experience.Essential Requirements:
2-5 years current experience working in a SQL Server environment (versions 7.0 - 2005)
2-5 years working in a Windows NT/2000/2003 environment
Skilled in using SQL and in writing custom scripts to automate tasks
Understanding of database performance tuning strategies
Understanding of database backup and recovery strategies
Skilled in creating technical documentation
Productivity, initiative, professionalism, customer service attitude, attention to detail and quality, ability to multitask, team focus, strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and adherence to firm and US IT standard operating procedures.
Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Strong skills utilizing Lotus Notes databases and Microsoft Office Suite.
Understanding of technology/software relevant to team.
Must be willing to work overtime as necessary for day-to-day operations and occasional weekend or after-hours coverage. Will be required to carry cell phone, pager or blackberry.

Familiarity or experience with Project Management skills
